David,
I installed one on my 1650 and it works great. It starts the same warm weather or cold. I pull the choke out it starts quick then I push the choke back in right away and it idles perfect. This is where I put mine.

Scott T. that would be a very small leaf spring. At the hardware store square bent u bolts started at 1/2in diameter.

Doug B - as long as we're talking U-bolts that "may work" here's the U-bolt laying in my garage (about 60 miles from you) that I mentioned yesterday. It's from a '90 Ford F-150 4x4, and they used 2 of these on the rear u-joint. I think it's about 1/2" diameter so you'd have to drill the holes out in your bracket. Not sure how it would fit around your lift arm but the "sorta" flat sorta rounded back shape is unique. Thought you might have one of these Fords with the clamps close by.

Hydro, that looks more like 5/16" diameter to me.

EDIT: Unless your "Made in China" ruler is not to scale...

Kraig - You are correct. I had those same u-bolts on my '87 F150. And the flange nuts used on them were 1/2 inch across the flats.

Napa part #PUJ 53410 $5.46 for a set. got them being delivered.
I'll see if they will work when I get home later.

Kraig and Dennis - both of you are correct. Now I just wonder if Doug can find one and "make it work".
(Kraig - I removed the Made In China from the pic so it would be more accurate

Under Edit - I see Doug found them brand spanking new - I hope 1 works.
