Gerry where's that yard of "rest"? Years ago I stumbled across a IH dealer near Tampa that had untold number of cubs and some scouts, even a few semis. Story was the owner was retired, and would not sell tractors or the land. Once in a while I still wonder about it.

I wonder if that turbine tractor was just a mockup or really worked. Can you imagine a tractor that sounded like a turbo-charger on a big truck! If your down wind, what does turbo exhaust smell like?
 
Kraig - Oh Great One Keeper of the Photos - and noticeably absent during Turkey Day Season - are you sure that's the 500,000 IH CC??? I know it looks the same but I believe Steve said it had red trim on the seat. And the one in your pic has the PTO lever engaged. Won't start that way. It does look like the dash decal and hood decal are slightly miss-aligned where the meet - which looks the same on the black/white pic.

Frank C - I just saw your post on the previous page with Dave Kirk's question "anyone know the S/N of the 500,000th Cub?". At first thought you may think well its gotta be 500,000. Then you think, well it should be something like 2050047U500000. But then it comes to mind that the first production CC unit had serial number 590 so the 500,000 production unit should be 500,590. So does anyone know who owns a 149 with a Model/Serial Number Tag showing 2050047U500590?
 
Now if we look at it Harrys way the 500,590 might be any 1x8/9 model except 169
 
New member, longtime Cub owner. I have a model 127 that use to see frequent use as a mower but I have only used it for plowing snow the past 5 years, so it goes for periods of time without being started. If it sits for a week or more then it will not start unless I remove the spark plug wire from the plug and place or hold it slightly over the plug. By slightly I mean just barely on the plug so that only the rubber boot of the plug wire is in contact with the plug. So the spark has to jump from the plug wire to the spark plug. When I do this it starts right up. After it warms up I can push the plug wire all the way on to the plug and it runs great and will start right up when warm. Any ideas what could cause this?? Thanks.
 
Wyatt, that sounds odd, But I would start with a different wire and plug first

Kind a sounds to me like your timing could be off like to far advanced . I would do a static check to rule that out.

Pretty sure the photo with the crawler tractor is from 1963. Also note that in the photo of the Turbine tractor the Mayor of Chicago and his family are standing right there. The kids climbing aboard will one day also be the Mayor of Chicago.
 
That TD-15 with the Drott skid shovel would be a fun toy to play with!!!!!!

Think how fast old fence rows would come out around fields!!!!
 
Jeff - did you get lost in space or something. The pics are of the 500,000th Cub Cadet (assumed to be S/N 500,590). It's been clearly indicated it was a Model 149, which was the top of the Line 1x8/9 CC production unit in early Feb 1974. (It can't be a 1x8 cause we can see clearly it's a Hydro). It's worth noting the next month, late March 1974, the 1st Model 169, S/N 506,737 was produced, so that top of the line 149 500,000 unit had a kinda short lived success - ya it was and still is a show piece of course. Truth be told IH really didn't do much with the Model 169. As you know it had that short production run ending late 1974 when the Quiet Line series was introduced. And the dang IH Marketing people even published a brochure claiming the 1650 was the most powerful Cub Cadet built. It was like no one ever told Marketing they built a 169.
 
Harry, I believe they are calling serial number 500,000 the five hundred thousand cub cadet which is a 149 isn't it?

Jeff - I guess I never read it that way. If they are calling S/N 500000 the 500,000 Cub Cadet then it would have been produced in Jan 1974 according to the production charts. Do we know when the event in the pictures actually took place (day/month/year)??? I admit that having the Cub Cadet with a S/N tag showing 500000 would be neat, but we also know the very 1st production unit was stamped with S/N 590 so, my position is that 500590 is the true 500,000th Cub Cadet.

I wonder if that TD-15 had an experimental air cooled engine, just like the Original Cub Cadet shown? Interesting that you can see the cooling fan on the TD-15 in the picture and there's a rather large cavity in front of the fan. Looks like the radiator is either missing or did the TD-15 have a fwd flow cooling fan in front of the radiator like the last 50 series tractors had?

Steve B's comment about the 500000th Cub Cadet having a nice looking red and white "seat cover" is refering to the two lovely ladies seated on the Original and 500000th Cubbies in the picture at the 401 N. Michigan Ave building.
 
Ken - your right. Thanks for pointing that out. It should be S/N 500589.

Ron - geez, didn't know that. Hard to tell from a B/W pic.
