I contacted a man from Navistar several years ago about an Original they had. I was thinking it might be 501 or 590. He was kind enough to have some guys take it out of the crate, check the serial# and take a couple photos. I think it's the same one from the photo at 401 N. Michigan Ave. I have since lost the emails but I'm pretty sure the s/n# was 29409. I still have the photos. I believe it's in a warehouse in the Chicago area and they may also have the 149.

Am in the process of building a test stand for starter generators using a 1725rpm motor. The engine pulley on 122 and 129 appear to be 7" diameter(correct?) with a 3" generator pulley that means that the generator is turning 8400rpm if engine is turning 3600. So, a 10" pulley on 1725rpm motor and 2" pulley on generator would have generator turning 8625tpm. Close enough? Or 7" motor pulley and 1.5" generator pulley would be generator turning 8050rpm(better?)
 
I'd use the 7" & 1.5" just to reduce rotating mass. If your working on things, I'd hate to have those big spinning disks in the way.

The rpm should be fine if your just testing for good voltage. Cause if it isn't charging right at 8,000 rpm, it's gonna be broken at 8,400 too.

I believe the Original in the pictures you posted is now on display in the front lobby at Navistar's new World Headquarters in Lisle, IL. It's in the back of a nice B-100 pickup bed, which is also on display there.
 
The one in the picture has the smile cut out for steering making it a much later one?And has the cast generator mount instead if the welded one.

Hey guys, just picked up a nice 782 and 1811. I originally planned to part one or both of them out, but after fooling with them a little bit this evening, I got bit by "the bug". I'm starting to think about keeping one of them. Now I'm thinking about which one to keep. The 1811 has a very nice smooth running Magnum 18, while the 782 has a KT17 Series 1 that runs nice but smokes. I'm leaning towards keeping the 782 because it's one of the original IH units (not MTD) and because I like the red better. So my questions are: what are the major differences between the 1811 and 782 (which is better and why). Also, if I keep the 782 I'll want to drop the Magnum 18 into it from the 1811. How difficult of a job is this? I'm fairly adept at this kind of stuff, but I just want to know if it will bolt into the existing mounting holes, and will everything else pretty much hook up? Thanks!
