2185 stalls

i have a 2185 that will start .when i let up on the brake pedal or hold the brake pedal down and then pull the pto switch out tractor stalls.where do i start to check? thanks

Troy, Sounds like the mower deck is siezed up and jamms the engine. Are the belts still on their pullys? With engine off can you turn the mower blades by hand? I'm thinking maybe a siezed spindle bearing. Let us know on these basics so others can help you further with repairs.
