It was a good lesson for me. I'd thought I could sell one but couldn't decide which one. When it looked like push was coming to shove, the only one I'd think of selling was what I considered the "best" one for the buyer. After I cleaned her up a little, greased the deck, topped off the gas, checked the hydro fluid and engine oil (this is the only engine here that doesn't use oil) and he still hadn't showed I told Jeanne I was changing my mind. Then I took her (Penny, not Jeanne

) out back and put her back to work mowing some grass that was getting away from me and "mini bush hogging" an other area. Sun's still shining, I should go take a pic.

Don't sell. It sounds like this guy is a MTD specialist and he knows you have an indestructable type old "lawn mower". You also have a connection with Penny that we all know about that might break your heart once she travels down the drive away. He couldn't go to a box store and buy anything close for twice the money and Penny isn't costing you a thing now.

I think I've mentioned it before but a millionaire once told me "when in doubt, do nothing".

Although these tractors never fail to impress me, it makes me uneasy to sell one to someone with no interest in or ability with mechanical work. Their sale price ends up being more of an adoption fee with the stipulation that when they get sick I'd prefer to be their doctor.
I hope you guys know that if you're ever in northernmost Maine that the door's always open.

Well I worked on the carb today off the 100. Dumked it in some carb cleaner to clean up some of the caked on crap & crud. Worked pretty good for the most part.

Does one heck of a job on paint! Replaced the needle, gaskets, coil, coil wire, condensor, plug, air filter & pre-cleaner. Still have to do the points yet. I tried to fire it up and I'd say I floaded it. Not really sure why, but I did. It fired a couple times but just wouldn't catch. I tested to see if there was a spark and the little fancy light lit up on the tester. So will try it again tomorrow sometime. Spark plug was soaked with gas. Only thing I didn't do is change the float, it seemed to be in good shape and it floated on water, nothing sloshing around inside it afterwards. I did however not remove the rubber washer on the throttle shaft, didn't realize there was one in there until after I had soaked it!

so I dried it off and used a pick to put it back into place at the end. Hopefully it isn't swelled too much to screw things up? I set the idle screws to the same setting as when it came off the tractor, hopefully I will get the idle pretty close to the way it was. It looks a lot better with the crud cleaned off the carb, not so messy looking. Now if I can just get the stuff off the back side of the air cleaner too. Its like a really thick varnish stuck to the paint. Let it soak in the parts washer for a while, but it didn't do much at all even after scrubbing at it with a stiff brush. I guess I can look at it as its a work tractor and bound to get dirty sooner or later! Now as long as it starts for me tomorrow, all will be good. I need to get it running so I can test to see if its over charging or not. Have to stop blowing up coils!
 
STEVE B - Darned Archive bug! Plow is going to look great red/white with all the decals.

No fair painting outside. You're supposed to spray red paint inside so everything in the shop is dusted PINK. But if I had the plow frame bolted to a skid and a loader tractor with pallet forks to lift it I'd have moved it outside and painted too!

PAUL B. - Nice pair of CC's, your picture looks like the sales brochure from 1964.
 
Mike: Toward the end of the summer, Penny started hard. She'd kick back on the starter to the point that the pulley nut backed off. Instead of bringing her down here to the CubHouse to relieve her pain I changed s/g and went again. Time seemed right to bring her down, did, cleaned and re-adjusted points and now she doesn't even want to be choked to start. Moral: POINTS ARE IMPOINTANT.

But if it worked good before I blew up the coil, why would it need the points changed now in order to start? I didn't do anything to them when I removed the carb for cleaning. I know I will have to change them since I have a new one in the bag, thanks to Charlie. But I just wanted to get it going to make sure all worked. But, guess that didn't happen YET!

I just tuned onto the Weather Channel and they're hunting iceburgs. The first words that caught my ears was the young feller saying "but it's not my fault". I NEVER WANT TO HEAR THOSE WORDS AGAIN! If one of our Cub Cadets or Jeeps or anything we have here "breaks down" I consider it my fault for not either paying attention or, more often, knowing something's wrong but "waiting 'til later" to address the problem.

Mike P., there is probabily instructions in the points bag, but be sure to clean off the contact faces before use. Seems they can pick up some crud somewhere along the line.
 
Mike P - hey it's getting late. Where's your report for today? I'm getting a little concerned that you changed the "needle" but not the seat (and there are 2 different styles so if you mixed one with the other it could be a problem).

Just trying to figure out the guy lingo...well if thats even possible ? LOL
 
Amy - yup, you're quite the blonde. Easiest way to identify this is for instance - You have a 104 which would be part of the 1x4/1x5 group. The 1x4 covers 72, 104, 124 gear drives, and the 1x5 covers the 105 and 125 hydros. The guy lingo stuff is really XXX.

Let me repost this question I asked a week or so ago and hopefully I'll get a response this time. I'm refurbishing a 982 that's well used. The Onan engine runs pretty good, doesn't smoke, but spits out a few drops of oil from a rubber hose on the right side of engine, after it's ran for a few minutes. The hose connects with the upper right hand of the block, below the oil pressure relief valve. Anyone with an Onan have similar problem? Assume it's piston ring blow by, pushing the oil out - although I'm surprised since engine has a crankcase breather plumbed into air cleaner, I wouldn't think there would be that much positive crankcase pressure? Any comments?
 
I am looking for some help (hopefully) I want to put metal fuel lines back on my Cadets as I finish the motor work and paint jobs. I can make the lines from 3/16 brake line readily available from the local auto parts store (I have done this before on my 104) I called my local dealer today to see if they could still get the little pieces of rubber that slip over the fuel line and fit inside the flange nuts. As you know they like a lot of others things are NLA. UGH!!!!! Any suggestions from other Cadet enthusiasts? Just send me an email at [email protected]

My question is who can tell me what size the the four small gears are and what size the pin is in our Cub rear ends. I spoke to a fellow Jeep guy that has an air locker in the rear end of his Jeep.He has just a piece of hose for the locker up to his seat where he will blow into the hose to get the rear end to lock.I know a small tank can be used to hold some air to do this ,but he has never finished the install. I think if the cluster gears in our Cubs might just be close or even the same as some application in other rear ends. Now I hope you-all can see where I`am headed with this .

What I want is a posi track rear end in my Cub when I need it and I know for plowing snow on a paved drive that would be cat`s a$$.Who please could tell me what size these gears are so I can find out if a locker is out there that can be had. My loader could use it and my 1512 with the 54" blade I want to use this winter for snow removal. HELP !!!
