Headlight Parts are on the way, ag's are on standby.
I also have the quick latch springs to get tie wire off frame.
Finally starting to come together! It's been steady working since purchase in April. The "trailer" accident was a setback but still moving forward.

Gol dang it Jason - I see you have a 44A or 50A deck on your 149 but you're missing the little lever that goes in that slot on the mule drive assembly. It's to show when you have the belt tension correct - and it's also used to release the tension on the belt so you can install/remove the belt.

AND WORSE YET!!!! Why is that brake pedal in the off position. It won't start like that and it sure can roll away. If you don't believe me just ask the guy on here that had a trailer hooked up to his and ended up with a broken axle

Jason - It may be predecessor to what's called a 44A but utilizes all the same stuff. If you review your Operator Manual you should see the details on setting your mule drive, subframe assembly and 44" deck up, and see pics that show you what you're missing on your mule drive. I just call it a lever but the parts list calls it the idler rachett. You're probably missing the nylock nut that is supposed to be used with it as well. Here's a pic of one I recently had and don't have any more, so you get an idea. It's about 6" long.

You guessed it, "No nylon lock nut"
Also what the heck has been chewing on my front axle?
What ever it was, looks like same kritter was chewing on the parts 1250 in the exact same spot.

Ok Best guess on "kritter" that was chewing on my front axle is the PO's 2 giant oak trees w/ just enough clearance for cub to squeeze through without deck. After numerous WOT Full Ramming Speed attempts the PO was Finally able to squeeze poor little cub w/ deck attached through the narrow opening????
My goodness you would think rear wheels would be on top of the deck before the belt and spring would allow pulley to gouge front axle like that???

Jason, most axles get those chew marks. It's from the mower deck mule drive pulleys.

Doug,

that looks very much like one that a friend of mine in high school had back around 1978/1979. Same color body, same color top, same white spoke rims... I kick myself for not buying it from him when he sold it.

Some day I want to have a CJ2A, my second favorite vintage Jeep! Favorite is the Willys station wagons. I had a couple of those in the past but they were getting rusty and I didn't have the funds at the time to fix them.

Here's a shot of the fleet at one time. The blue Wrangler and the green CJ3B are now with new owners.

I've had the 2A for 37 years. It didn't always look like that and it might not necessarily look like that now. It's time to get it in for some TLC.

Jason - if the belt for the "PTO to Deck" is old and stretched, or if it's the wrong belt, or if it has improper tension, the mule drive pulleys can bounce and cut into the front axle. Since you don't have the lever (idler rachet) I showed in the pic you have no way to know if your belt has the proper tension. I'd certainly recommend getting a lever and the nylock nut. (And by the way, the nylock nut is just to hold the lever loosely on the bolt. It doesn't replace the nut holding the pulley.)

Hydro -

Thanks for the Info,,, I actually thought I "Might" be done wrenching on the cub here SOON! I'm beginning to figure out that although I don't mind wrenching on cubby, the actual "FINISH" date may never come.

Jason - "the actual "FINISH" date may never come". Well, unless you go thru everything you may just be right. It takes awhile to learn your tractor inside out upside down front to back, but eventually it will actually feel like it's part of you. I'd still recommend picking up another one so you can wrench on one while you use the other.

I am concerned about your front axle. The cuts usually occur on the left front side of the axle before the right front. Better have a good look at your left front and see how bad it is. You said the 1250 axle has some as well so you may want to keep an eye out for one that's better, but keep the 1250 for a spare anyway.

Holy Cow! I got my 109 cub running again!

It literally froze last winter! The transmission locked up while I was snow throwing in 14° weather. The engine quickly snapped the drive shaft rod.

Last week I took it to my welder and he reattached it. I serviced the transmission and she ran like new... Or at least as well as it ran when I got it off Craigslist!

I'll attach some pics soon. Thanks to Digger for checking up on me. Otherwise I might have given up on the beast!

Hey Jared, Digger is good like that. I also had a few checkups along the way. Once I was able to stand on my own two feet, a

here and there became necessary as well.

Im glad to hear you didn't give up on the 109 and that it is up and running again! That's Great!!!
Can't wait for a few pics!

EDIT: Jared I also just noticed the personal quote in your profile.

Since the hydro service and driveshaft fix, sounds like possibly a new personal quote may be in order?
