Hello all, got my first hydro CC, a 169 with no leaks! I'm new to hydros, but well versed in rebuilding the earlier CC's - I used to be hard core and wanted only those with metal pedestals. Where do I start poking around? I am changing the fluids: CIH Hy-Tran Ultraction is currently $20.75/gallon; and I'm using Rotella T1 SAE 30 in the K341A, Spec 71154a, s/n 6204596. It has the hydro lift. No leaks anywhere but there is a lot of dried dirt and oil. I cleaned up the front spindles and need to tighten up the axle (it slides forward and back 1/4" on the pin). I have read the wonderful comments on setting the drive to neutral and have to do that, plus it lurches pretty hard. I'd like to start by cleaning everything so I can see, but not sure I want to pressure wash. I don't want a show tractor, I want a tractor to drive and do some trailer work pulling fire wood, where do I start? Not sure what these washers are telling me on the brake rod, and the hour meter may have made a couple of rounds. Thanks all!

George, a 169, very nice!

The stack of washers tells me it most likely needs new brake pads.

George-

The chances are you will need to address the hydro linkages, tighten cam plate play, and probably rebuild the trunion slot. Have you removed the tunnel cover yet and looked at all of the linkage? What history do you have about the tractor? If these things have never been addressed then get ready.

And pics can help others help you so keep them coming with the questions.

.

Thanks for the support. I got the tractor from Ray Weaver at his new place in Schoeneck, PA, and have no history. Yep, the trunnion needs to be rebuilt, but there are no leaks - how do I clean this all up without using a 2 degree nozzle at 2250 psi? Here are some pictures of the hydro lift, not sure why there are so many holes below the clevis; plus this area is loose and wobbly.

I'm starting to see things now that aren't very clear on page 27 of TC-157. The parts don't line up well in the drawing. Should there be another pin in the bottom clevis hole? Thanks again.

You really need to hit the ENTER key after each picture.
That way the page doesn't go wide and we don't have to keep editing your post.

It's fixed.
Also, there's a thing that's called a float lockout that gets installed in that arm to keep things from floating.

George, Here's what Charlie is referring to.

Marty, can't Wait to see it all come me together,,,
thumbsup.gif

All,,,

My take is, it's Nearly Impossible to "kill" a 149,,,,

But, setting the s/g belt a lil to tight
produced a Very Loud Harsh squalling vibration noise w/ some horrible terrible very loud grinding noise all mixed in together,,,

Neither pto engage/disengage or rpm cured the 149 death rattle/squal,,,

Loosened belt a bit, and back to the beautiful sound of a single cylinder cast iron Kohler thump, thump, thump, that we all know and Love.

My short term plan is to Never do that again!!!!

Any thoughts or suggestions on a possible Long term solution that does not include curb or roadside would be greatly appreciated,,,,

Thanks,,,

happy

@digger I got both packages! thanks for a great service you offer.

I have my mower deck mostly level. I now need to make a bagger for out of a 5 gal bucket and some bags. Now I need to finish up my 129 engine and get that running and driving

125 sputtering update..I cleaned up the breather tonight, pulled the carb off gave it a thorough cleaning, cleaned the filter bowl again, put it back together.ran as smooth as silk I ran the 125 for over an hour not cutting but teara$$ing up and down the street at full throttle,I went in for dinner let the 125 cool down restarted literally with one flick of the key and again... ran like silk hopefully I've got this little gremlin solved.down side I noticed that my hydraulic lift cylinder is leaking fluid again, man fix on problem and another one crops up.Thats how I roll I guess

Going to refocus some time this weekend to firing up Iron Patriot, going to pick up a battery Friday after work, going to change all the fluids before I attempt the starting.ill update on how that all goes

Ethan: I had a leaking lift cylinder on my 149 until I changed the fluid in the transmission. It seems the previous owner had NOT been using Hytran. Once I filled the transmission with new Hytran the leaking stopped.

Good luck.

Jeremiah c- I will try that I have a generic hydraulic fluid in my lift pump but I just picked up a five gallon pail of hy- tran so I have plenty to spare

Hi all. The release lever bracket on the 149 hydro has broken off and it's missing. I'd like to make a new one but I don't know what it looks like. Does anyone have a diagram/picture of it?
