So we get our first decent snow fall of the year here in east central Wisconsin, and I'm all revved up to hop on the 1650 to use the front blade I just picked up. First pass down the driveway goes smooth as silk, so I raise the blade & back up for the next run. I go to lower the blade for the...

Aaron I have to say, I always enjoy looking in here to see what you've come up with next. I was wondering though, have you ever given any thought to reproducing a front blade subframe?? It's only bar stock with a couple bends in it... I'm only asking cuz my uncle and I did a little...

Dennis - Thanks for the detailed write up. I was hoping there was something compatable with the existing quick fitting on the tractor, but it sounds like a better idea to convert everything to the same style/size. I'll head over to NAPA or even my local Fleet Farm and see what I can get for...

Good morning everyone, I have a quick question regarding the hydraulic angle kit for the front blade on my 1650. I have the blade, and the hydraulic kit, but no hoses to go to the front ports. I'm wondering if anyone knows what size hose, and fittings I need to connect everything correctly...

Kraig, great photos!! I'll have to take some measurements this weekend and see just how much room is really in there. The flange on the "hub" really only needs to be about 1/4 inch wide max. Well good, now I have something to ponder later on!!

Scott T - What about cutting off the shaft, but leaving a little sticking out of the sprocket. Then you could use that as a pilot to center up a replaceable hub. Clamp them together, and drill 6 to 8 holes and bolt the hub in place... see sketch. Is there enough room in there for all that??

So, let me ask a silly question... What's stopping a guy from cutting the sprocket off of my worn out snowthrower auger shaft, and boring a hole in the end of the auger tube to accept the replaceble end?? All I would really need to do is add one more hole thru the tube to secure the end in...

I just took a look at the thrower on the 169, and it doesn't have the replaceable ends. Looks like I'll have to do a little machining work to keep this one in service. The auger has some week spots on it though, so I might have to retire it after this season for a complete rebuild. Here's a...

Scott - I thought of doing something like that, but I hoped there was something a little easier and cost effective. Maybe I should just go find a front blade and not worry about all the rotating parts that can wear out... On a side note, what do you have there rotating the thrower chute?? Do...

Hey all... I have a QA-36 snowthrower that's out of service because of shaft wear on the end of the auger where the drive chain attaches. The PO didn't seem to notice the extra slop in the bearing and now the shaft is smaller than it should be. My question to you all is this... does anyone...

Kraig, I had actually thought about that for a minute, unfortunately the 36" thrower has a bad end on the impeller shaft... the non-replacable kind. I have a 42" that I use with the 169, but it also needs a little refurb. The impeller blades are a bit knicked and bent. If I knew I could go...

Hey all... I haven't had a question to post in a long time, but now that I have a project tractor I have one. Other than the hydraulic angle blade, what else are the front ports of my 'new to me' 1650 good for?? I wanted to retire my 169 for a restoration, and this 1650 came up on craigslist...

Hey folks, how's everyone's holiday weekend going so far?? It's been a while since I posted, but I just picked up a 1650 with dual hydraulics and had a question. Other than the power angle blade, what kinds of attachments are there that utilize the front hydraulic ports?? I read that Allied...

John F: After looking at your pictures, I have to ask this question... What rpm is your motor running at to get the snow up on top of the house like that??? No wonder your driveshaft isn't holding together... Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Thanks again everyone for all the great info and insight on collection systems. I never noticed that one unit didn't have a blower on it. I'll need that part for sure. The tow behind Trac-Vac would probably work just fine. As far as trees are concerned, I make a lap with the push mower first...

Luther: Here's what my searching has turned up so far... The one above is from a company named Protero out of Minneapolis. The back actually opens up so the clippings just fall out. I would think it I could get it to fit the 169 without too much trouble. This other one is a Trac-Vac...

David C: I checked out the Peco Vac website, looks alot like what I want to do. I have a small storage shed, so I could always make room to store it in there during the off season. Luther: That E-Z Vac is another great option for me to look into. I tried to look it up online, but had some...

Kraig & Dennis: Thanks for the photos and write-up!! I'll take my time and look at them when I have a minute after work. What I'd really like to do is come up with something that doesn't need a big yard cart for collecting debris. I have a 100 x 150 lot and not much room in the garage to...

I know everyone is still talking snow removal, but I have a grass clipping removal question... Has anyone put together a vacuum system for their Cub to bag unwanted grass and/or leaf clippings?? If so, please post some pictures with a brief description of what went itno building it. Thanks!!
