I was mowing this past Saturday when suddenly my 1450 shut down on me. I know, I know, I read the FAQ's that talk about the exhaust valve sticking and I am really hoping I have this problem. But it seemed too easy. It started after sitting for about 5 minutes but wouldn't stay running. What are some of the other signs when the valve sticks. I initially noticed some smoke from in front of the carburetor and thought that the new drive belt was rubbing awkwardly on the mule drive. Can someone give me some good news. I don't want want try and start it and cause further damage if it is not the exhaust valve. If it is not the valve, any suggestions. It was really running well prior to this problem...

David, a failing condenser can cause those exact symptoms as well. BTDT...

Kraig,
I am going to risk sounding stupid, but what is BTDT?? Also, is there anywhere on the site that I can locate a little more information about trouble shooting a failing condensor and/or is there a way to test either problem?

Thanks Jeff.. I'm laughing at myself right now. You would think I could have figured that out on my own. Rough day today.

David
With the current draw of the PTO and coil be sure your battery and charging system are good.

David, I see Jeff already answered what BTDT is. I'm not sure there's any way to diagnose a failing condenser other than to swap out parts. That's how I found mine was failing.

Alright, when I get home, I will try and see if it starts. I am assuming that if it is a stuck exhaust valve and it cooled, it should start. If that doesn't work, I will progress to a condensor. If that doesn't work, I may have to consider internal problems??? If anyone has any other ideas, let me know. Thanks guys.
