Tom, you know I found the same hodge-podge of capscrews on my 1450. I done like Hydro Harry,.... Use only WP monogram capscrew hardware. You think about how long IH has been producing machinery, its fair to say that the high carbon steel WP capscrews are the best for your 149. See what it says below, !

Wyatt - I grew up in Vermillion and been to Brandon several times but never heard of Corson till you mentioned it. Maybe you can meet up with Tom spottin on the Jebo spur.

John L - nicely said.

TOMCAT's grill is very good condition. I carefully set it aside until today. A wash/blow-dry and then a Satin paint may be in order. A careful masking of the Logo for new RED/BLUE too.

Tom, Red black, not red blue......

Tom - the grill emblem is RED/BLACK not Blue, with silver edging. The I is Red and the H is Black. Here's a fuzzy enlarged pic of mine. Hopefully someone can post a nice clear pic so you can see exactly how it's done. Don't forget the little circle R registered trademark to keep it original if you can, assuming it's not faded completely away.

Tom-

If you are getting new hardware, grade 5 is what you want, not 2 or 8. 2 is too weak, and Grade 8 is overkill and can eventually cause you more headaches down the road, as Wyatt alluded to. You want the bolt to twist off before it pulls the threads out. They are grade 5 from the factory for a reason...

Yeah, I dunno why I typed RED/BLUE. So...to preserve the nice IH Badge should I wash the Grill in warm sudsy water prior to painting? Badge is a tad loose around the edges. Hmm.

when you mounted the 450 blower to your 782,was the 782 an IH one?I know the CCC ones have holes in the frame for the dowel pins, but the IH ones do not.
Did you use just the QA to mount it,or did you drill holes in the frame?

The 782 I had the 450 mounted on was IH built. I had to drill the holes in the frame to put blots in to assist the QA mount. I had to do the same on the 982 I am working on, its IH built as well. Drilling the frame out is the easiest part, but getting the nut on the bolt - HA! That is one crap job!

Have the correct plate extenders on their way to me, error corrected, no big deal. Another satisfied customer (not that there was any doubt either)!

Now if I can just get the time to get back out to the garage to WORK on it! My full time job gets in the way of me enjoying Cubs & farming, that's just NOT right!

I do have to agree on one thing though....

Tom S.

I cleaned the grill with water/degreaser soap and put a new decal on the grill for my 149. I did not paint my grill as the 149 is a worker, but I don't think I would paint the non-metallic grill. I wonder how well paint will adhere???

If I wanted it to look nice I would try something like Armor All or a tire spray. However this stuff tends to collect dust if it is on a worker.

Well the 126 is finally coming together. The new tri ribs showed up today, the wheels from Extreme came earlier in the week. I hope the paint will match the hood and grill when they are painted.
Still waiting on the clutch cover from Lew.

Salvaged a decent steering wheel from a 125 parts tractor I have had laying around. had to cut the column and press the shaft out.
Rattle can Duplicolor school bus yellow matches the IH Ironguard really close.

Got the new cross brace welded into the hood also. It along with the fender pan will be taking a trip to the body shop for a little massaging and paint soon.

This is my 1964 100 with a cw36 snow thrower on it. I was very impressed with how well the thrower worked. I did change the pulley on the thrower to a smaller size to speed it up and also used a pulley for a 1/2" belt. That is around 28" of snow.
