What diameter are the holes in the 169 air cleaner ?I know the location and orentation but need to know the diameter. The cover can be made from a mag 18 cover but the base is not the same.
Thanks

Michael M - if you use the air cleaner cover from a Mag 18 you don't need to drill holes in the side of it. The correct filter will hold the cover off leaving some gap for air flow (similar to the standard air cleaner covers) as long as you are using a standard base with a coupling and a small threaded rod to extend the center rod thru the center hole in the air cleaner cover for installing the wing nut. The "hole" idea of the holes in the side of the original cover is that the base and cover have a rubber gasket seal. I never measured an original cover (mine isn't) but I think the original 169 air cleaner base is slightly larger in diameter and I don't know how you would do that and get it to seal.

The Mag 18 cover stamping is slightly different also. I have both and it's noticable side by side (does not bother me).
I reused the mag 18 base and just tig welded plugs in the extra holes. I have this air cleaner on all my Cubs except the running 169.

Rick: If you have both the 169 and Mag 18 cover, a picture of them side-by-side would be most informative to the rest of us. I have two Mag 18 motors, and there are subtle differences between them as well. My camera works: I'll show you mine if you show me yours.. . . Now wait a minute, that doesn't sound right, does it?

Jeremiah,

Pictures as requested.

169 Slightly concave, ribs are fairly shallow

mag18 Slightly convex, ribs are more indented

Probably several variations of these, but this is what I've got.

Andy's day in the spotlight:

262480.jpg

100 hours on the K341. Headed to the CubHouse for a well deserved oil change. (No, so don't ask).
Although we still have issues to be corrected this winter, I'm still proud and happy that this beast came my way. A new PTO pulley/basket cured the shearing of front s/g mounting bolts (didn't tell ya about that, did I?). A driveshaft upgrade is in order (front drive pins keep going AWOL) and the dreaded cork gasket needs replacing, but aside from that there's less than a dozen other issues to deal with.

Oh, P.S. Did you know that God's name is Andy? To get through the Pearly Gates a guy (Forrest Gump?)had to answer the question "What's God's name?". He answered "Andy" because he remembered his mother singing "Andy walks with me Andy talks with me Andy tells me I am his own". Those who have attended The Church in the Valley by the Wildwood may appreciate this.

Michael M - looks near perfect if not better to me. How did you come up with the base? Or did you modify a standard base? If so, what did you do to it to get a rolled edge where the gasket fits?

I got the base from a forum member.Does it need the rubber seal on the base to the air cleaner cover the filter holds it off the base around 1/4 ''

That base looks a lot better painted up at Mikes than it did on my parts shelf!

Frank,
I "turned the page"? What, to a new chapter? Maybe a narrow frame thread? Naaa, I wouldn't want to be inclusive to narrow frames.

Tom: I call it escaping the archive bug. Pic away!

Narrow frames are good, too:

Don't forget, the hydros started with a 123 - about as narrow a frame as they get.

I guess Charlie wants us 169'ers posting all of our serial number crap here, so I'll 'bump' this 2.5yr old thread back up to the top.

There's good news/bad news...

The good news is that I managed to find the old database with ALL of the info on it, and got it updated with all of the new info as well.

The bad news is that the list is so long now, that I can't even take a screen shot of it to post the info.

This should be the updated data. Please feel free to check my math to make sure I have your rig listed correctly.

Thanks Luther. Once I found the correct version of this database in my files, I had your correct info. Appreciate the follow up!
