What horsepower was the original Cub Cadet?

What is the difference in models 70, 71, 72 & 73?

Thanks,

John

O was a 7 hp.
Several differences in the other models. One main difference, the 71,73 are hydrostatic and the 70,72 are gear drive. You could to do a search online to see most of the differences.

Thanks. I had wondered whether a 7 hp would have enough moxy to run with a hydro. That’s why models 71 & 73 perplexed me. Now I know that they were exceptions to the numbering rule.

I just purchased a 70. My fleet now consists of a 70, 104 & 109.

Thanks for your help.

I think Marty was just seeing if anyone was paying attention to this topic.
My #72 could probably run a hydro.... the 70 with the slow 2nd does O-K, with a K241.

So, back to my original question- - are there any significant differences between the 7 hp models? Was the 73 a wide frame?

Best I can tell you is the difference between the Original 7hp and the 8hp. The 8hp was the replacement for the 7hp when they went bad. I own 8915 built in 1961 and we bought it from the original owner that blew the 7hp 1967 in 1974.
