Charlie, I recall that Steve B. had taken a liking to a cordless battery powered impact. I don't recall if it was a Makita or a Hitachi or some other brand. Might be worth an email to him. Or I bet he'll be at PD13 so you could look him up there.
 
Earl, I am a big DeWalt fan. Back in 1998 I bought an 18v cordless DeWalt drill and I do not know how I got along without it. It is still going strong with the same battery and I have used it a BUNCH. I also have a DeWalt table saw that I bought about the same time as the drill and a router I got last fall.

I know it wasn't a DeWalt that Steve B. has or I would have included it in the list.

I've used the lighter duty Makita for a few years - nice when we're on the road.. My only gripe is the Makita charger apparently doesn't have a "float" mode like my Dewalt drill and it eventually cooked the battery. A friend spent several years pulling classic Chevy sheet metal from California salvage yards every winter (sold the stuff here all summer) and swore by one of the larger Makitas......
