I have this new to me 1872 with a hood decal, a leather looking appearance, that is coming off.

I have seen others that are coming off also in pictures on the net and thinking;
-should I order a new set only to have this happen again or are their other sources to purchase new?
-or, has any one tried to paint the thingy's on?
