I tried rebuilding the carb on my 482...Pretty straighforward. Had afew problems getting the throttle linkage to reattach. After getting the engine to run, I noticed that it wanted to run wide open. There is no idle at all. If I hold the govenor arm on the left side of the block I can kinda control it. Really feels like there is a return spring somewhere broken. Is there antyone out there with a diagram of this linkage???? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Curt - I bet you didn't get the gov hooked back in the right hole.
What engine ya got there and I'll see if I have it on here.

The small rod is only hooked in one hole in the throttle arm... The way it is acting is that there is a spring somewhere broken or missing....I got real excited to hear it fire up after my wrenching....Was kinda proud of myself....But this has me totally stumped....The small rod pulls down on the throttle arm..I can get a finger in there barely, and try and stablize it...You can feel it being pulled down....I followed the linkage as far as I could. Removed a cover on the left side, to see where the arm went...Traced the linkage from the left side of the block up to where is goes into the rear of the motor under a cover. I really wanted to tool around my neihborhood....I feel like I'm missing something ....Hopefully you can help....11hp. Briggs and Stratton....Let me know if you need the numbers off the engine

All I have is Vanguard and the old castiron horizontal blocks. I should have the old manual for my Craftsman 11hp Briggs but I'm not certain.

I had a guy that specialises in Lawn and Garden tractors stop and look at it. Showed him what the problem is. He tried to adjust the govenor, but no luck. All the linkages are there and working correctly. He seems to think that there might be a problem with the internal govenor. He's calling me tomorrow with a price to get things fixed up. Might be afew weeks, but he seems to be able to fix it....
