Hey,I'm looking for some more history on the cub cadet 122,123,124,125,126,127,128,129.Could somebody tell me the differences!!!

Jochua F.

Sure thats an easy one, the difference is (122+1=123) (123+1=124) (124+1=125) (etc) (etc) keep adding (1) until you reach 129. Simple math problem.

Actually go here http://www.geocities.com/jluckeycub/

The 122 thru the 127 were Narrow Frame and the 128 and 129 were wide frame Cubs. They should all be 12 hp engines and the last digit indicates manual or hydro transmission. Odd equals hydro, even equals manual transmission.

I've owned both the 128 and 129 and both are good tractors, don't know about the others as they are narrow frame and I have never wanted one of them, but I would bet the people that have them like them.

Richard, Thanks for the info! I have a cub cadet 682 and I was wondering what the differences are between the 682,684,782. Thanks so much!

Something else You may want to do is look in Your local book store or AMAZON.COM for the Cub and Cub Cadet book written by Our very own Ken Updike. He's also working on another book on them but It's a secret!

Dennis, How can I get a hold of ken updike? I bought his book today and I would like to thank him!I haven't seen him in the sand box of cub cadet forum.

Well, You could call Him at Carter & Gruenwald, or just post a comment on the IH Cub Cadet Forum and He'll see it. He hangs out on the RedpowerMagazine forums too.

Yeah i have a 125 and the thing is awsome! Yeah i never got y they had 122 through 129. But i learned alot! Thanks for the info! And what the hell is the differance between wide frame and narrow frame. I mean i know the width but what differance does it make?

Anthony, the narrow frame can only fit a 12hp as the 14hp and 16hp have a larger flywheel. Cub Cadet introduced the wide frame to allow mounting of the larger hp engines. There is one exception to this and that is the model 147 which is a narrow frame with a 14hp, however the frame on the 147 had a flare in it to allow for the flywheel. Here's a photo of the 147 frame with the flare.

682= red in color, 17hp, manual lift.
684= not sure about this one. Are you sure you don't mean 784?
784= yellow/white in color (I think), 17hp, hydraulic lift with front hydraulic outlets.
782= red in color, 17hp, hydraulic lift.

Ok Guys:

Jochua has brought up some interesting thoughts.

Was there ever a Yellow & White 682 and 784...?? I have only seen these models in Red. Does anyone have any pictures of these Y&W models they could post...??

Thanks,

RB

Jochua:

After some research and getting some material, here is updated information;

The 682, 782, 784 were available in red and yellow & white. They all had 17HP KT-17 Kohler Motors.

There was NO 684.

The 682 had no hydraulics. The 782 has a single hydraulic circuit (implement lift). The 784 had dual hydraulics (implement lift + front ports).

Thanks to Myron Bounds for the information on colors and pictures.

Roland....

IH didn't use the "784" factory designation even after the sale. It's a CCC factory/dealer number and it's only found on the ID plate and not on the hood. The hood decal only has 782 in any version (the same holds true for the 982/984/986s).

I tried to post these last nite but they seemed to go into outerspace or something.

Anthony:
Ther are actually three frame types after the original.
The narrow frame was the first after the original and as Kraig said, the 147 was a modified narrow frame. Narrow frames actually have three main fender types...None(Round), such as on the 7x series and 100 series, Square fenders such as on the 102, 122, etc. and the one peice fender/storage box as on the 126, 147,wide frame models such as the 108, 109, 128, 129, 149 and 169 etc. These had the engine mounted solid and no side panels. Probably the best of the wide frames as the engine mount does not generally loose up and cause vibrations like the Quiet line's. Then came the Quiet line. These are the ones with side panels such at the 800, 1000, 1200, 1250, 1450 and 1650. Nice tractors but the ISO mount can cause some major problems if it loosens up and wollows out bolt holes and rubs pans etc. Also, the Q/L series like to accumulate debris inside. Finally the X82 series is a super wide frame to accomodate the twin cylinder Kohler KT 17 and other engines in other models. ALso had side panels. Engine was again mounted solid and these with the twin are smooth running tractors.
There are no narrow frames with Hydraulic lift that was not an add on. Some came with the electric lift and some had the 16A added for hydraulic power. Only early wide frames that had hydraulic lift were the 149 and 169. Quiet line had Hydraulic lift on 1250-1650. The newer version of the Kohler K301-321-341 etc engines had the larger flywheel and the wide frame allowd it to fit nicely. Most 1250's did not have it, only a few. Manuals also list an electric lift for some of the wide frames that was inside, but I have never seen one. Check some of the information pages on this site and other related sites and you fill find much more info regarding the various frame configurations. The early narrow frames had a steering linkage that was roll pinned on top that tended to loosen up. Later versions replaced this with a more positive version. Some examples are 102, 122, 125, 126, etc.
Kraig Mc has numerous pictures of just about anything you want to know regarding cubs discussed here.
