hi new bee here. while brosing craigslist this weekend i ran acrossed a cadet 60 with a blown engine (broken rod). i had one of these as a kid and put a sno-sled engine on it, what a blast. before the page could finnish loading i was in my truck to pick it up. my kids are pulling tractors i think it would be cool to throw a garden tractor rearend and a kohler it the back then off to the track to pull it. can't wait to revitilize those child hood memories with my kids. i did think about restoring it but i would think engine parts would be hard to come by. i think if i make it a puller my kids would have fun, i would have a perminant grin on my face and others would have acess to the parts that i don't need like mower deck, trans, engine parts. thoughts?

Overall size of an IH Cadet Model 60
I'm considering buying a 60 (had one as a kid - great machine) but I need to drive a considerable distance to pick it up. What are the length, width and height of a Cadet Model 60? I want to see if it would fit in the back of a minivan (perhaps with the steering wheel removed). Thanks in advance,

William, WELCOME!
Here's some specs on the Model 60:
Not sure of the height but looking at various photos of them I'd say roughly 36" to the steering wheel. Overall width I would guess to be approximately 34" based on the 32" cutting width. Overall length is listed as 54".

My major concern in this project is getting parts for that old Tecumseh. I admit that I have not scoured the archives here for source information, but if I need piston rings, or a head gasket, or seals, where do I source them?
I recall that I almost started a similar project way back in 1995. At that time, as I recall, you could still buy a new fiberglass shell from IH, or at least the part was active in their catalog. Amazing.

I picked up a model 60 a few weeks ago. I am new to Cadet and the idea of restoring them.
When I saw this on Craigslist I passed on it the first day. Then vapors came over me and I realized this would be perfect for the kids and I to tear apart, and possibly put back together.
Will attempt to post pictures now.
I called about it, went to see it in the country 40 minutes away and brought it home. As is it cost me $50; actually I gave the guy $60. because I liked it so much.
The seller said he bought it for $50 from a guy who had it in a barn for the last 30 years.
It was real cool to find out that it's considered to be one of the most rare Cadet's there is, and it seems to be complete. The guy had the head off and said the piston is stuck but the cylinder is smooth. All the parts seem to be there all the way down to the key for the electric start.
The kids and I are doing a full disassembly and blasting what needs it and then painting as well. We want to restore the color of the fiberglass and I'm unsure of what to do about the stickers and decals. Like I said, I'm new to Cadet and I don't know if retaining the decals and such is important over buying replicas or NOS if there is such a thing.
Steering wheel and column are the holdouts right now. The bolt is seized, the head now sheared off, and I'm trying to drill it out without any knowledge of how to do it. I was going with fast drill bit and patience. Turns out fast drill bit and no lube will just harden the bolt more. Switching to photon next, or if Home Depot is out of them I will try a hardened bit, on slow, with lubrication.

Cody, with sheared off bolts, some people have had a hex nut welded to the top of the sheared bolt. Seems that sometimes the extra heat can loosen things up, may also let you use an impact wrench or other device to get it out.
Allen, thank you for the response nearly a month ago. I lost track of where I posted this originally, and just happened upon it today. I don't have much available time to be on very often. Thank you for your response about the stuck bolt. Since my post we have tried drilling it out, which has been a long slow process. We broke a bit and luckily got it out and then broke another that we can't quite get out yet. I had drilled from the opposite side and I think we broke through but I just don't have a thin enough punch to attempt to knock the bit out. And no time. It's a little here a little there process for us.
I'll try to update as I go as we plan to fully restore it, hoping the engine runs still.
I've already looked quite a bit for the NLA camshaft and or any NLA parts with no luck. As far as I know the cam is still fine, but I want to be proactive in searching for whats out there.

Austin, the front bumper mounting is covered in the C-32 Snowthrower Manual as it is required to mount the snowthrower.
