I'd imagine that the seat safety switch may have failed, meaning it does not "recognize" that an operator is present and shuts down the engine, as would happen in that case. That seat switch is the most likely culprit, but easy to replace.
Kai, Here is a link to ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS that cover Cub Cadets. Please note that there are three different electrical diagrams that cover the 2185. You will need the S/N of your 2185 to get the correct diagram.
