I am trying ti figure out how to get this type zerk out. I'm assuming it is a push in. The little ball valve is missing and this is the hub of a coulter so I feel it needs to be replaced.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wayne - I'm not certain, but I seem to recall this from a previous discussion. I think the answer was to cut it off flush, then remove the inside shaft from the coulter (it looks like you've already done that) and punch the remaining part of the zerk through to the inside. Then you can press in a new one. However, you may want to search the archives or wait for advice from someone who knows for sure!

Wayne,
I would do as Greg said, BUT instead of getting another push/press in I would tap it out and put a threaded one and in. You have plenty of meat on it, and save youself the trouble if the fitting goes south again.

Thanks Greg and Tom-

I've never heard of that technique but it sure makes sense. I had already planned to tap for the replacement. I was hoping yall would say just pull it out since I've already painted.

Still learning every day.

Wayne,
In my experience, pulling doesn't work. When pushed into cast iron, the zerk doesn't come out easily. I've broken them off and drilled out the remainder in preparation for tapping in a screw fitting: worked well for me.

It actually popped right out. I did get the big vise-grips and a big screwdriver to pry with. I now have a 5/16" slick sided hole so I guess I need to look for a 3/8" zerk and tap it for that.

Thanks for all of the input guys.
