I got me a new toy today.
A good friend of mine, Lyle Baker gave it to me, Says here, pay shipping and I'll send it to ya!
I always like to play with new/old stuff.

Charlie:
Gonna get those instructions scanned, in case another of us finds one??

(Part of them look transparent...)

OK, any hints on how it works??...Does it press the seat in, chill it to a sub zero temperature and drop it in or just use it's transporter technology and beam it into position???
I inherited my dad's tools ( and he worked on Model A's when they were new), but I've never seen this tool...

Charlie, I, like Kendell, want to know how it works!

Art's not gonna like the background....

Charlie:
Check out 280166229563 on e-pay.. you could get the matching seat grinder !! (AND the instructions are there ...)(January 1948 ????!!!!)

Kraig & Kendell,
Is does just what it says, Inserts valve seats.
Is cuts new holes for the new valve seats to fit into.

Oh sure just ignore me ... may as well be talking to the ol lady ........... or one of my doctors ....... or Art ....

Has anybody heard anything from Ken lately? Haven't seen him post for a while...

I was just trying to get him stirred up. That's usually fun.

Charlie - so if there is already a valve seat recess, this cuts a new oversize recess and then an oversize (OD) valve seat is inserted??? (I'm sure Kraig understands but I'm conceptually challenged (today....??)..

KentucK - disregard previous..

Kendell,
Yepper, that's pretty much the way it goes.
I've got to get a couple more pieces that are missing, but it's still a pretty neat find IMHO.
If memory serves me right, it can also be set to grind non removable seats and and grind valves as well.

I'm rebuilding O'Nan B48G 19.9hp.
Need oversized Valve Seats. .002 and .005 not available. Can I use J-B Weld with my old seats ? How hot will the engine get ? J-B Weld only goes to 500 degrees.

Thanks.

WOW.... How do these ancient posts get brought back up?!?!

DENNIS - Onan B48G from a 982 I suspect. I've heard that Onan engines like to spit the valve sets out. There's a reason the valves & seats are made from Stellite, they run extremely hot, typical operating temp/color for an exhaust valve is a bright red, almost orange, so in the 1200-1500 degree F range, http://911research.wtc7.net/cache/wtc/analysis/fires/metcolor.htm

I don't run the Onan in my 982 very hard, it has to last a long while yet. It was completely rebuilt just before I bought the tractor, has 330 hrs on the rebuild. The governor has the slipping finger wheel problem where the plastic finger wheel slips on the hub on the cam drive gear and the engine "runs away". Terrible design in my opinion. I'd like to find a little Duetz air-cooled diesel to drop in the tractor.

Dennis F - Don't bad mouth the Onans ... my Miller 225 Bobcat has one !
For the same money but 2 weeks wait I could have got a Kohler
