If you feed your Cat or Dog , can food
A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.

Ken, saw that. Have to wait and see exactly whats been recalled. Think I'm ok, been feeding cats Purina canned food. Thnx A.

Might pay to go to the menufoods.com web site and check all of the brands - there are 37 Cat food and 46 Dog food brands involved... If you try to look at the details of each brand, you'll need to either have Microsoft Excel or the Excel Spreadsheet viewer
( office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/xlviewer.aspx ), which is a free viewer from MS (the download is about 9 MB...)

My Netscape browser shows, don't need spreedsheet viewer here. Iams website isn't loading though. Guess they got swamped. They've got the brands we get but we get dry food. This same thing happened a couple of years ago with another company with dry food. It was blamed on corn mold.

Ken - the reason your browser worked is the dufus's changed all of the files to .htm - they probably figured out after a million complaints that a lot of people don't have Excel on their desktop and couldn't open .xls files .......

I guess it 's a good thing for my cats that they only get dry food.

Oh BTW ... CHINA is the one KILLING our pets.

Let's ALL go out and BUY some more Slanteyecity crap. All hell... ****. Let's call it what it is. If it comes from CHINA it's ****!

KENtuckyKEN - I could not agree more, it's all cheap crap!

#1 Had Chinese food last week..Soy sauce, duck sauce, hot sauce, and fortune cookies, all made in Bronx NY. Go figure.
#2 It seems the recalled pet food was contaminated with some form of rat poison! Its only used in foreign countries. In the US its used to treat cancer! Feds still looking around.

Has it EVER occurred to anyone WHY we are IMPORTING wheat ? I thought WE were the nation that FED the world !!!!

Looks like it's going to get worse. By the way ... you can thank our government for what happens next!

In a news conference, FDA officials said that the apparently melamine-contaminated wheat gluten also was shipped to a company that manufactures dry pet food, but they would not name the company.<!-/quote-!><hr size=0></blockquote></font>

The thing about this that bothers me the most is how many brand names there are for a single food product. That makes it a lot more difficult for consumers to figure out what is safe to get during this sort of problem.

What irks me is that the FDA has NEVER stepped foot inside a pet food plant ... I guess a 14.2 billion dollar per year industry doesn't draw enough attention.

If my 14 year old Chow/German Shepard had died from that instead of old age I would have gone to China and put a bullet between the slanteye's eyebrows responsible for it.

Premium pet food company recalls dry foods.

But Natural Balance doesn't use wheat gluten, the ingredient contaminated with melamine in the Menu recall. Instead, it suspects that melamine was in a rice protein concentrate, a new ingredient used in the dry foods

got the rice protein concentrate from an American company, which he wouldn't name.

People it doesn't look like it's going to end. If you thought your pet was safe you might ought to read this as it's now in rice.
