I pulled the side covers off the engine and did not take note of the oil line position, it showes A-B on the oil filter side but is A the top or bottom port on the blk?

This is the only picture i have but I think the line that enters the top hole at the cooling duct actually connects to the bottom fitting on the engine. But don't quote me on that.

I looked in my pdf files this afternoon and I didn't find any info either.

Man that sucks ! I went in the house to see what books I have. I've got the old K series pdf files on the PC and the Command book in the house but nothing on the Magnums

thanks for the help, form everything I see looks like the B line goes to the top port on the side of the engine and A to the bottom, its not really called out anywhare ive seen but looks to be that way in the Kohler manual pictures so that is how im going to try it unless someone can tell me diff? Aqitch yours dosent look like how it is represented in the kohler manual.but like I said its not called out just shown in the achamatics, B top A bottom. and it may not make a diff. unless an oil filter is made to filter from the inside out or vise versa. im sure 1 line is pressure in and other flow out

talked to kohler today still cant get a good answer from them so the only way to find out for sure is to pull the pluges and roll it over with the lines diconnected, only 1 will pump out oil that one will go to B on the remote

Roger, I sent ya a pm with the Kohler illustration, so you can verify the "plumbing" of the remote oil filter. YES, it really does matter so I am glad ya asked. It is Kohler TP2204b the tech pub's service manual for the Mag18-20 horizontals. Hope this helps.

I took a closer at mine and it does look like the b line connects to the top fitting on the engine.

aqitch, just from the pic B is going through the btm hole in the tin, thanks Jim I think your right on the B line on top, Im still going to confirm by rolling the engine over

Sounds good Roger, btw I was in Kohler's service dept. prior to the "Great Purge" last year, I believe we went from ~4500 to < 3000 people then.

Roger,

There is much more filter media exposed when the flow is from the outside in, thus the typical direction of flow is that direction.

Jim and Roger; I find this info very interesting.
I would prefer the vertical mount on the oil filter because of drainback jmo.
I bought a dodge truck many years ago that had a external electric oil pump. The truck had the 440 engine and 400.000 miles on it. You could circulate and warm the oil before starting the engine. The truck was sold without me knowing a lot about the oil system on it. The previous owner used it to pull from Michigan to Florida.
Just rambling.
