Trans oil change

Planning to change the oil in the transmission on my 122. No luck finding Hy Tran locally. Manual says can use 30 wt oil. Anyone with experience using 30 wt versus Hy Tran?

Richard Streib. Most use No Detergent.

I adjusted the forward /reverse speed to a happy medium. Trans was working fine before I did this. Then it would not move at all. So I adjusted it back to were it was & still won't go. What is the problem. I have tried everything?? I Did a complete fluid & filter change & other things . No luck.

First off, WELCOME! I have a few questions before I can offer any potential solutions to your transmission issues. What model Cub Cadet do you have? Did you do the fluid & filter change before or after the adjustment? What did you use for fluid? What filter did you use?

Thanks all for your responses. Glad to know the 30 wt will work fine. I've got a rear cover gasket leak so will get a new gasket and replace that when I drain the tranny.

Bruce, FYI, the original posters questions were about a gear drive cub, not a hydro.
By all means, DO NOT USE 30 weight oil in your hydro.!!

I have a 2005 GT3000. I did the fluid change & filter after I couldn't get the tractor to go. Thanks for your response.

Thanks. I was told though that 30 wait hydraulic fluid was ok. Not motor oil. Is this correct?

If you don't have a local Cub Cadet dealer nearby, Charlie's Cub Cadet Specialties can fix you up with the correct Hydro oil.

I recall that 30W engine oil could be used in a manual box, but not a hydro unit!

3000 series does NOT use HyTran...it uses the Cub Cadet branded "Drive System Plus", or alternatively one of the engine oils mentioned in the hydro unit manual. I am 95% sure the 3000 series have a Hydro-Gear BDU-21 hydro unit, for which the manual is here: https://www.hydro-gear.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/BLN-50327_P6.pdf
