My pedestal on my 1862 is badly rusted from years of battery acid and rain. I picked up a used replacement which is in decent shape and wondered if replacement is something I should try to undertake?

It is not in danger of collapsing though I do worry about the rust getting to the frame.

I think I have the tools but I have never undertaken anything of this complexity before. It looks like I will have to deal with all of the hydraulics in addition to all the electrical and that steering wheel which I am sure is now rust-welded on. Should mere mortals attempt such an endeavor?

A side question I have is whether to source the needed replacement nuts, bolts, washers etc as cub parts or just pick up what is needed generically from parts stores?

Also, should I plan to update/replace the electrical components while I am at it? Everything works fine now, though they may be a little rusty.
