What model is that? If I have to guess, I would say it is for belt tension adjustment. :drool2:

My son was mowing and ran through a swale which caused the blades to hit the ground and it shut off. Now when I turn the key, I just hear a click. This silver thing seems loose and it feels like the click is coming from it or something it’s attached to. Can’t see what it is without taking the whole back end apart.
 
its the lift spring adjuster. just below with the zip tie is your silly o noid. probley needs to be mounted rite to start with.. as it has bolts.. not zip ties.
