Well I am thankful I finally got the kinks out of my 100 and got her / him purring! Had a multiplicity of complexities to fix. Two broken wires (how does that happen when it's just sitting in the garage?) and carb that was stopped up and varnish all through the fuel system. All those things...

Thanks to all of you who tried to help me I appreciate it! I'm sorry my email wasn't updated but the pictures posted here helped me. When I reread my post, It appeared to have been written by a third grader I'm afraid. It was the connection of the governor elbow to the throttle ( I think!)...

Question about spindles on a 46"GT mower deck on 1863 MTD tractor

Mower seemed to be louder as I was mowing a couple of days ago. I changed oil and oil filter and tranny fluid filter, because it was time , and while I had mower disconnected I greased the spindles and listened while I turned one of the blades. It sounded scratchy (I cannot think of a proper...

Can a cast metal front axel be welded to repair it?

Had it welded yesterday, because I could not find a used one. A friend welded with a tig I believe. he said He did it on his own large tractor and it is working well. The repair looks good and he worked slowly and took a bit of time to heat it up. He said an old timer told him to ping it...

Can a cast metal front axel be welded to repair it?

Oh Heck! Im' sorry I did completely forget some info! 1862 CC MTD 1992 year. Repowered about three years ago with new engine. In it's day was a very good tractor and did several acres a week for at least fifteen years. It has about a hundred hrs on the new engine. I have a 149 and a 100...

Can a cast metal front axel be welded to repair it?

I was trying to do spring maintenance and get it ready. I had had a little problem with turning and straightening up after a sharp turn. I had made an adjustment and thought it was doing better, and I was happy until some sound distracted me, and I ran it into a curb! I broke the axel on the...

I'm having a problem with my 149 while mowing on level and relatively smooth ground. The tractor speeds up markedly and can be scary. It is like you suddenly bumped the throttle forward, but didn't do it yourself! I had a problem with the wear in the part that controls the speeding up and...

Problem maybe with testing PTO after replacing 1862 MTD

Sorry, I guess I don't get it either as to why the confusion?!! I tested it with my weight in the seat and the PTO worked properly. Finished reassembly of the tractor and it worked fine. I thank you for the help. It was silly of me to forget the safety switch and that was the only problem...

Problem maybe with testing PTO after replacing 1862 MTD

Dtanner, I wanted to test it before putting the heat shields back and the muffler and the grill. I also had the mowing deck off the tractor as well as the belts etc. The PTO was attached to the engine and the electical wire too. Hope this clears it up. Bill

Problem maybe with testing PTO after replacing 1862 MTD

Ken, Thank you so much. You nailled it for me I forgot about the safety switch. Worked like a charm with the weight in the seat. I'm tired and ought to know not to try to fix something when tired... It would also help if I was smarter too! LOL You folks on here are just the greatest...

Problem maybe with testing PTO after replacing 1862 MTD

I have replaced the PTO clutch on my 1862 MTD and thought before I reassembled the whole tractor That I would test it to be sure it would work. It does not turn when I lift the PTO switch. Should it turn? I don't have the belt on it or attachments. I have adjusted it with feeler gauge to...

1862 CC battery runs down between mowings

Exact same engine was replaced. It was a diys job. Runs great. The clicking noise ( a single click) happened every time I touched the neg on the battery with the neg wire. I could tell the noise was in the area of the starter. It was not at the battery. After about six repetitions it...

1862 CC battery runs down between mowings

I have a repowered 1862 CC that I have to recharge the battery every week to start. It will start fine if stopped during a cutting but if it sits for a week it won't start. I removed the neg battery cable tonight and charged the battery. Tried touching the neg terminal with the cable in the...

    MTD model 1862 replacing engine

Roland, again thanks for your help. I do not know how to post pictures, but today I solved the mystery by removing the skin over the left side of the engine. This allowed access to some screws on what was a blind cover for where the fuel pump is to be attached. As soon as I get the fuel pump...
