    New/Old guy from eastern Virginia

I am a returning member from several years ago. I collected Cub Cadets and have gotten older and physically unable to continue with restorations and repairs. I am going to be getting rid of 3 cub cadets and some parts sometime in the future which I will post on the "For Sale" portion of this...

I am an old contributor and CC collector that due to a bad back and old age is down to a 149 and 2 129's. I plan to get rid of 2 but cannot get the generator to charge on one. How do you check as to the VR or the generator. I have done it many times but have forgotten, Many thanks.

Harry-I bought one several years ago when I had 7 Cub Cadets, some with ongoing electrical problems and never took it out of the box. Until now!!

In regard to my saga with the 129, I did try a brand new starter with a battery pack and the same result. When the weather gets a little warmer, I will recheck the valves and timing. Is there a fix to the compression release?

This is my first posting in a long time since I am down to a 129 and 2 149's and a zero turn Cub Cadet. Back problems and old age have taken its toll. My problem is the 129 with a trac vac. I blew a head gasket earlier and when I pulled the head, I discovered a burnt valve. I replaced both of...

Thanks for all the replies. All I want to do is raise the front end enough to change the blades, so I should be OK with the 350 lb version.

I am getting ready to buy a front wheel lift for my zero turn that will handle 350 lbs. Is that enough to handle my 149?

I am having a problem with my 149 transmission speeding up and slowing down on its own. The control lever seems to be loose, and I have tightened the bracket all the way. The book calls for a bushing, but do I need to pull the handle off and pull the rod out to put the bushing in. Or is there an...

What is the best way to get the pulley off a S/G for my 129 without destroying it? Thanks

I finally gave in and bought a zero turn mower. I am now going to sell some of my "babies" as much as I hate to do it. My first one is a 169 that is in good mechanical condition with a 44" mower. I got it about 5 years ago and replaced the rag joint, rebuilt the PTO, did the steering upgrade...

This week has been both a sad and happy time for me. I have realized that I am too old and crippled up to take care of my 5 Cub Cadets. 3 of the 5 are broken down with a burnt valve, broken drive shaft pin, broken PTO and belt issues. So this week I bought a new zero turn Cub Cadet with a...

My 125 w/a 14HP quit on me today. It has been running good all year and it suddenly cut off and backfired one time. It will turn over and backfire weakley, but will not start. It is firing and gas is going thru the gas line. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I have just rebuilt the PTO on my 169, even with a new pulley and pressure plate. I think I put it back according to the instructions, using the gauge. However, it wants to grab when I disengage and even holds the motor when I try to start it. Do I have the nuts too tight? Or too loose?

Digger, Thanks for the help on getting the snap ring in the PTO. It worked like a charm!!

The PTO on my 169 has worn out and I had to buy a new pulley. I assumed the snap ring that rides up against the bearing was included with the new pulley, but it was not. I got the old ring out of the old pulley but cannot get it in the new pulley. Any help appreciated!! Thanks

Frank, Yes, I have pulled the pushrod out, reversed it, and it still has no movement when I turn the engine. I wouldn't think the rod could have worn the cam. I guess the next step is to try another pushrod. Thanks.

I am trying to get a spark on a K181 with a recoil starter off an original (I think). I am at the points and they will not open. The push rod will not move with me holding it with my finger. Any ideas why there is no movement? Thanks

Has anyone ever used the old narrow front wheels on a wideframe such as a 149 or 169? I am running out of wide rims. Having a problem with the bearings getting loose and have tried shimming and peening. All have been temporary fixes. I have several narrow rims and tires. Thanks!!
