Mike, sorry to hear that, not tryin to ruffle any feathers was just tryin to make a point from a damage stand point. I personaly don't have a problem with APs or FMJs. A regular hunting round from a rifle will ventilate body armor with no problem.

Ken, deffinatly agree with ya on hollow points, thats all I keep for defence. With all the bs lawsuits that go on if ya wounded someone in self defence they can turn around and sue ya, if ya kill them they can't

Brendan - Yes they can!
True first hand story of a friend...

He was upstairs sleeping with his wife and they heard someone coming up the stairs so he grabed his 9mm and met the guy at the bedroom door. The intruder had a gun but he was caught off guard and didn't get off a shot before the homeowner put 8 shots in the guys chest. The guy lost his home and everythhing else he owned paying lawyers to keep him out of prison. The court was trying to say it was excessive deadly force. He finally stayed out of prison.

Round about that time I remember hearing scuttlebutt about reloads ... seems if you rolled yer own then killed someone with them it was considered premeditated murder.

Brendan - No problem. That was a long time ago & the Gov't use to send a Draft Notice. Our MOS was 11b, we use to kid each other the "b" was for bullet stopper. Yes, it was sick humor but that's what got us through.

Ken, Had to have something to do with number of shots, defencive training and IDPA training your tought to double tap, two shots in kill zone. But I know for sure with a single action wheel gun more than one shot is premeditated cause they figure you have to think about pulling the hammer back for every shot which is bull because when you try to get a quick followup shot hunting do you remember pulling the hammer back. Not me, when I'm pulling back on target I'm already pulling the hammer back, just a natural action.

I have also heard that about handloads, they say your loading up for more power which sometimes is true.

You guys have been busy. I took my kids out fishing today and just got back.

Brendan, You sound like an excellent trained shooter. I have never been good enough to be at a competition level.

Ken, You would think dead would be better in a battle, but the facts remain that it uses up more resources to care for a wounded soldier than a dead one. But that is war. Here at home I am all for hollow points also. Also what ahppend to your friend is all too common. Once you do shoot someone no matter how justified you are you are going to pay.

As far as what is real AP ammo. normal FMJ will penetrate varying thicknesses of mild steel plate. The good ammo has a tungsten steel core surrounded by lead and then a copper Jacket. This stuff will penetrate hardended armor plate which will stop regular lead core ammo cold. Bout the only thing still available in real AP ammo is the black tipped USGI 30.06 ammo from WWII.

All of you guys have had way closer calls than I.
Guess that's just cause I'm so good lookin.

I heard stories once long long ago from someone I trusted.
A guy sitting at a card table (all were drunk) pulled a 45 on a guy sitting across from him acusing him of cheating. The cheat went for his gun but the 45 guy shot him square center at point blank in the chest (must have been surplus hardball ammo). The shot guy grabbed the 45 away from him and killed him with his own gun ... limited to one shot per person ... I don't think so!
The mindset is IF you have to shoot someone you'd better kill'em regardless of the number of shots needed to do so. A wounded man will hurt you if not kill you. Selfdefense is selfpreservation no matter the means or magnatude of doing so. To prove my point, look at how many times cops have had to shoot a drug crazed charging perp. I seen a deer run 100 yards once after being shot with a 30-06 before it fell. When it was field dressed it's heart was in pieces as big or small as your little finger nail because it was shot head on right in the heart. Within that 100 yards it could have emptied a mini gun on us if it had one hid in it's antlers !

You know what pisses me off to the max ???
Back in Feburary I turned in a guy that had so much kiddie porn on his computer and indexed dvd's of select girls even. I called the FBI "we'll call you tomorrow", I called the State Police "please call back tomorrow", I called the Governors office and finally got things rolling. I'm still waiting for the FBI to call. Anyway they raided his house while he was on the road (truck driver) and they told me that he was one of the most dangerous types because of what he had and how well his records were kept AND an autobigoraphy that they found of his. Past history ... he was brought up on charges once before for molesting his step daughter but his "well connected" oldest living brother got him off with a $10k bribe to the mother. Ok so this lady State Police (office of internet K.P. for Ky) tells me he's a loaded gun (sorry for pun here) waiting to kidnap a child probably at a rest stop somewhere along his route.

I went to the local horsepital 2 fridays ago with severe pain in my right shoulder and left thumb. I couldn't touch my thumb hard enough to indent the skin without sharp pain like it was broke. I sit in the ER for 50 minutes and no doc. I walk out to the nurses station and EVERYONE (room was full) was sitting around like on a coffee break so I told them how long I had been waiting and cussed them out royaly (doc was sitting there too) and told them I was going to find another doctor. I was met at the outside door by 2 Glock totin' security guards, I keep moving and didn't look at them. One said something but I kept walking staring straight at my truck telling myself that if one put a hand on me they were going to injest their fancy Glocks. I was in no mood and to much pain to be handled... but they didn't follow me.

Oh you ask what about the truck driver ??? He's never been arrested! He's still driving out of state. How do I know for sure ? He's the youngest brother of my oldest friend.

How's my thumb? It's gettin better. My shoulder is on it's SECOND cortisone shot in a week's time and today he shot that stuff in there so fast I 'bout punched his lights out! You talk about more pain than what I started with .... that stuff must be thick as tar !!!

Yeah a friend of mine had a bandolier of black tips but they got stolen from his building along with several thousand dollars worth of Sako's, Weatherby's and other big name rifles.

Hey glad you took your kids fishin, they were driven me nutz ... did you bring them back ??
Naw seriously I'm glad you took time to take them. I believe that fishing trips could solve alot of the worlds problems. That is of course if you don't have to put up with jetskis , waterskiers, party barges .... that's the reason for my TOY project, to get to a calm quite place. Hey post pics of your kids fishin trips !!!!!

Jason, You don't give yourself enough credit. It just takes alot of practice and determination. I use it as a form of stress relief, when I'm on the range I don't think about anything. Kinda like meditation, my heart rate slows, my breathing slows, and I just plain relax. I'm there to shoot out Xs. Bullseye is awsome. You can start with a cheap Ruger MkII and target ammo. You'll be suprised how well it will shoot with practice. For center fire start with a Glock 17 so ya get use to the recoil, alot of people don't like them but they are super reliable. If you don't shoot alot you will teach yourself alot of bad habbits with a 1911. I wasn't real good when I started but practice ALOT. 5 years and gun upgrades to get expert rank. A couple guys I shoot with also shoot on the NY olympic pistol team, damn good teachers.

Ken, I see what you're sayin hell if I had to plug some meth head 5 times I would, I'm just thinkin what a district attourney will say. Seen a court hearing where the guy was convicted of murder, he shot some crank head 5 times with a black hawk. DA said if it was an auto he would have walked but seems he had to pull the hammer back for every shot he knew exactly what he was doin.

Between my wife and I we have 6 kids, that child porn crap just makes me sick!!!

Deer have got to have a way stronger fight or flight responce than people. BTDT with deer. It amaises me how for they can run after bein shot up. I honest to god watched my former mother in law shoot a 6 point in the head, he ran about 20yds befor going in a pile. She walked to it grabbed it by the horns to pick it's head up to check it out, set it back down to get someone to dress it for her and the damn thing got back up running. Got another 20yds befor she knocked it down again. If I didn't see it for myself, and 3 others who were there, I'd never believed it. Half it's skull and brain were blown clean off. I was pretty floored after seein that.

Amen on the deer, running dead on there hooves. Quite a creature there. Seems that if some people get shot, mentally they are just done. I once heard of a guy who got shot in the arm. It was just a flesh wound but he panicked and died just like that.

I know I could shoot better if I practiced more. I could practice more if I wasn't fixing up these 30 year old tractors all the time. LOL!!

You know I could have taken pics of my fishing trip today but I just didn't think of it. Maybe next time. Now that you reminded me of the jetskiers......Some idjit brought a gas powered remote control boat out to the lake and set up closer to me than I cared for. It was annoying me quite a bit. The funniest part was after the Dad got done running the boat his kid who was with him just wanted to fish so they got out the bobbers and threw 'em in. They left pretty quick after that cause they were fishing right where they were tearing up the water with the boat only minutes before. Didn't catch nothin

Poor kid.

My kids are pretty young and my oldest boy is only 6. I got him a Marlin 15y single shot and I am going to take him out this summer. He has been waiting patiently, I'm gonna have to make good on that one soon.

My daughter is only 4 but I have a pink stocked Cricket rifle put back for her already. She keeps telling me she wants to shoot a deer with a pink gun. I'll get her started and I hope she does someday.

I bet there's not a living squirrel left when you take that hunting ... or a tree hugger

I use to have one that look amost identical to that one ... it fired white plastic bullets that you pressed into green plastic cases ... man the good ol days of youth ... around age 8 I think ;)

I'll post this in the thread that makes this day possible

first off how are "they" going to physically(sp) take our guns away? really how is it going to hapen? I really not up to par on all the politics and everything but how was it done in austraila did they just walk in their homes and search for guns? honest question

My wife and I have had this "discution" a few times about having guns in the house with kids. I grew up around guns, hunting... she on the other hand did not guns were a no no in her family. not to long ago my brother (alot younger) wanted to go hunting with me i finaly talked my mother in law into leting him go. He was scared to death of my shotgun had no idea how to act with a gun around him. sorry long story to make a small point but I think this is one of the problems with people wanting to take guns away from knowlegable,RESPECTFULL, and responsible gun owners. is it just me or is there that many people out there that have never even seen a gun except on tv killing someone and is this the only thing these people believe guns are for?

I took a maditory hunters safety class a few years ago so i could get my hunting liscens probably the best thing ever for new huntersand gun owners alike. I had been hunting for along time before the class was madatory for legal hunting and i learned so much from that class that my grandfather(at age 62 who legaly did not have to take the class) signed up for the class because i was more knowlegable with gun safety then he was. I truely believe this could be one way to answer back to the antigun crowd. I personaly would feel alot better knowing that if everyone that bought a gun had to take some sort of safety class.

I went on a couple hunting trips with friends of friends that I absolutely refused to get out in the feild with after just seeing them take their gun out of their truck and loading it and truly do not know how they havnt hert themselves or others. hell, one guy i went hunting with wile unloading his shotgun actually pointed his gun directly into the game wardens face after he asked us to unload our guns to check how many shells they hold.

any way hopefully any of this makes sense its late im tired.

hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th

Joe
