New to me truck Rear yoke where drive shaft bolts on was covered with grime/oil. Replaced the seal and while filling the differential the 80w90 gear oil was dripping out the new seal....WOW wtf. Pulled it out and bought another new one at different store. Laks but not as bad wtf. I have installed hundreds of seals so it was installed correctly. i see on ebay they sell flanges with like a collar around the flange for $100 and i can buy those flange t repair collar as they call them. for 40 $ Just dont seem rite i would need to buy a collar to take up the extra slop in the gasket after a new seal ?

This new yoke has the flanged sleeve installed over the original appearing yoke shaft. just dont see why the new seals arent bigger so people dont need to buy these. Like they left the factory.

Was you yoke worn where the seal rests on it? I'm guessing the sleeve is either a harder material so it doesn't wear as fast or a necessity if these new yokes are made out of weaker steel

Like on a front engine seal contacting the harmonic balancer, the rubber wears away the metal over time, creating a loose tolerance.
