Hi. I had this problem after recently acquiring this tractor in April of this year. I took the tractor to a IH dealership and they checked it out. I had a broken axle. I have maybe tilled gardens for a total of 20hrs since that shop visit. A week ago was tilling and got done and lost drive again. Did I break another axle or did this model have other problems with their drive besides axles? The last bill was $1600. Will be some expensive tilling if I have to fix every 6 mths. Thanks for any advice or info in advance.

Dominic:

The 982 is a Super Garden Tractor. This question is better suited in the proper (Garden Tractor) section.

NOW...NO...there are NO issues with the drive axles with the 982 nor any other Cub garden tractor model.

There are a number of things that can cause no power going to the rear end. Broken Flex Couplers, Spirol Pins, and Drive Shaft Couplers to mention a few.

Pull the Tunnel Cover and closely look at what is going.
