I’ve been poking around on the CubCadet web site and stumbled across a couple examples of CubCadets with 4a084 (or smaller) engines. I do know that these engines are USGov’t surplus that come with a manual that assumes the reader knows what he is doing. I don’t qualify. I don't know what the symbols mean. I’m trying to figure out how to wire the engine. I plan to put the engine on a DOSCO wood chipper.

1) Attached is the 4a084 wiring diagram. I have never seen a magneto before but I assume it is a power-source/distributor to be used for ignition only. I guess the engine on/off switch would be run from F to G. A closed switch is OFF. Correct?
2) It is a 24vdc system. I’m guessing the hot to two 12v batteries in series should be connected to starter solenoid terminal that is currently attached to the white wire. Correct?
3) The book says that the engine has an alternator that produces 60v @3600rpm and a rectifier that outputs 24v. I suppose the setup will keep the batteries charged but I can’t see how. Any ideas?
4) Also how should a starter button be wired?

Thanks

Personally I would love to where you found that the 4a084 was ever used in a Cub Cadet of any kind!
UNLESS, it was a Cub ultra-lite!
Lets hope you have a really good idea for gearing it down to add huge amounts of torque, cause this puppy ain't got it.

aschmidt and sarcher have great, interesting projects underway. Look for recent posts: https://www.ihcubcadet.com/forum/messages/19397/228217.html?1312138445

I am intending to use a belt drive setup which will reduce the speed of the chipper flywheel from 3600 engine rpm to about 2300 on the chipper. I hope effective torque increases accordingly. Do you know.

Do you know how to wire the 4A084 using the stock loom?

thx ncovey

I guess since you posted here in the Sandbox instead of the Cool IH Cub Cadets Not OEM but better'n' new ! ! ! section that they were maybe made that way at some point.

How about you starting a thread in the other topic and I'll move these post there.
Then the guys that do that kind of stuff will find it and post for ya.

Do I know anything about them? Nope, don't wanna either! LOL

Much appreciate your help. I'm a newby on this website and apparently didn't spend enough time looking around before I jumped in. Thanks very much.
