    Need some info on wideframes

Caution Charlie, wasn't sure if the 782D was a genuine IH tractor or a Cub made in the transition when Cub Cadet was a separate division. Figured I would get the answer here also. Thanks to those that replied and noted the spread frame, I have seen those and looking again at the pictures in the...

Morris finally showed up yesterday from Virginia!

Gerry, I would have like to been in the truck to see the peoples faces that saw it on the back. Jeremiah, I too thought this was Charlies new snow gauge.

I have found a 782 diesel that has had the frame "modified". The tractor is priced low because of it and I am seriously considering making an offer on it. I have not seen the tractor except in pictures and the ad states that it runs perfect and the running gear is is good shape. But (and a real...

Mike, there is product called "Loctite Extend" I found at a automotive paint store and it really works great on rust. You can wire brush all the loose rust off and brush this on, wait for it to dry and you can work the area just like regular metal. I have also seen the spray can but have never...

Mike, have you considered using copper fittings that use a ferrule. You would have to change the fittings on the carb and the fuel bowl also. You can also buy a tubing bender for the copper (you can bend the tubing by hand if you fill with a fine sand first, keeps from kinking the copper). These...

I agree with Frank (from the beautiful state of Maine) and others, you possibly have crud from the line or the tank that is clogging up the carb that you cleaned. Don't know about gas and copper but I know that if you look at old copper water lines, they are black inside. You may have to clean...

Mike, I would take the bowl off and see if gas is coming out when the float is down. Fixed a neighbors off topic mower that had the same symptoms, someone had changed a gas line and used non-fuel approved hose. Same black crud as you describe clogged the line. Replaced with fuel hose, cleaned...

Mike, the one suggestion I would offer is to remove the plug and after reinstalling the plug wire ground the plug to the engine. I usually use a pair of vise grips to clamp it on the engine fins. Do not clamp it next to the plug hole to observe a spark, if it does spark it will blow your hat off...

Mike, thanks for the correction. I did not know they made one that had a 12v supply side. Useful information if I can only remember it.

Marty, you didn't note what model you have so you may have fried interlocks etc. but to test a solenoid you can jumper from the large 12V post ( that comes from the battery) to the small post. This will engage the solenoid and if it tries to start you have a good solenoid. Note that some...

If Aaron doesn't have those gauge panels, back in the day they used to make gauge panels for us hot rodders so we could stick gauges on our cars (usually under the dash). You may be able to still buy them somewhere.

I feel I must defend the painters of the IH parts. When I first went to work at Freightliner in 1979 we had the best, most modern paint booths money you could buy. We also hired some of the best painters. But with the paints of the time and a production environment runs, fisheyes, etc. were...

The extra tab that Jeremiah had on his float was on a Walbro carb I just happened to work on last week for my son's neighbor. There was a spring that fit around the pin. One end pushed against the tab on the float and the other end sat against the tab the pin went in on the carb. Don't remember...

Bill, if you have welding skills you can carefully grind the head of the screw flat and using round stock make a "T" handle. Tack the other end of the round stock to the top of the ground off screw and remove it that way. The heat of the welding also helps to loosen the screw. Of course you will...

Donald, I would test the needle and seat by cutting off the gas, remove the bowl, turn the gas back on, and see if the fuel flow was cut on and off when you move the float up and down. If not you can check if the seal is cocked, and I don't know on a Carter but on some carbs the seal has a...
