Well I syphoned all the fuel out and replaced the fuel filter. It ran great for about a half hour at both wide open throttle and a nice smooth low idle too - no surging at all. Then the backfiring/spitting, rough idle and stall started again. I am ready to smash the tractor with a sledge hammer...

I think I used 5W-30 oil in the engine due to the possible extreme temps (-20) in northern NY state during the winter snow blowing season. Is that too thin for the 18 hp command engine - would you recommend 10W-30 instead? I used the manuf suggested plugs - how do I identify a step lower plug...

My brother in-law and I tried to adjust the idle on the carb again for the umpteenth time - the single idle adjustment on these carbs is crap in my opinion. Still surging and idling roughly every so often - like it goes out of sync - speeds up, slows down, almost quits, speeds up, etc...

You're right about the plastic flexing which may prevent ice/snow from building up in the chute and clogging same - still kind of cheesy though and the plastic directional gear gets tough to turn sometimes - waiting for that to stip out/break. I also have trouble with the height flap not staying...

Lonny I bought the swamp foxes for the rear - if you wouldnt mind measuring yours that would be great - interested in what they actually measure out at. Brad I live in the snowbelt region of upstate NY north of Syracuse where we get the lake effect snows off of Lake Ontario - 200+ inches a year...

Lonny they do look good - much higher tire than the 23's I have. You sold me - I will go with the swamp foxes. Did you ever actually measure their height to see what they really are? Thanks Again, Bill

Thanks Glen for the tire info - I wish I could put a 26 on it but that may be pushing it. I am going to look into the different lug and super lugs to see what sizes are available - maybe a 25 in a lug pattern. The stock tire sizes 23 and 24 just seems/appears too small for the 3000 series tractor.
