After reading thru ebays own forums, many other blogs and web sites there seems to be a rapidly growing dissatisfaction among buyers and sellers there. Perhaps the beginning of the end for ebay? Of course there is a long list of sites that would like to take ebays spot at the top!

Anyway, here is a short list of some alternative sites with promise.

Paul: Thanks for opening this subject. I've used ebay in the past as shadow32203, my account got screwed up and I had to reregister as shadow322032. Lost $32 to paypal in the process. My new venue for 2009 is to deal with our sponsors and a few on ebay that I've already ascertained will accept a personal check. The free classifieds here are also appreciated.

For local, I've had good luck with Craigslist and now there is Kijiji.com. Free listings, and it's not an auction site.

eBay has obviously done a REALLY poor job of notifying customers about their change in policy. Checks and money orders are VERBOTEN now. Don't be surprised if eventually your selected sellers won't take those forms of payment

Bryan: That seems to be the way it's going. Right now a seller can't advertise that checks/money orders are acceptable but if a buyer contacts them they can choose to if they want to. I think that if too much of a seller's business comes from checks/money orders that ebay will have a way to penalize them.

I deal with a guy here in NY that sell's on ebay. He also lists stuff on Craigslist which he will e-mail for you to get ahold of him. He gave me his phone number which I have kept for future purchases. So far the guys here on the forum have been more than helpful for what I have needed. I dont care for ebay one bit anymore because of the changes.

Like others I'm getting tired of ebay too. I guess I'm a dope but how or can you search all around the country without going from local area to local area?? I don't see a way!

Charlie: THAT's good to know! Click on the little red dot and you can go 3500 miles. If I may mention it, Joe's Power Source in Michigan sells a lot of Cub parts on ebay and has never refused a check or money order.

I've been having good luck on CL for a few months now, buying & selling. Some fantastic deals & it is so easy to use! Not to mention If you need help with a project, people can list their services or small buisnesses services. Found a local guy who powder coats as a hobby!
