Hello,
I'm not sure where to post this so i figured that this would be a good spot to start.
i have a 1978 Cub Cadet 1200 that i use to mow in the summer and plow snow in the winter. i am in the process of having the engine overhauled to reduce the oil consumption and loss of power that i have been experiencing. i will be replacing the motor mounts with new rubber also.
the main question that i have is.... where can i locate a good used clutch/driveshaft assembly that wont break the bank? the original assembly went south on me a few years back and i was able to replace it with a unit that i found on ebay but its not the right one for this tractor. any help would be greatly appreciated....Lance

Lance,

If you are overhaulingthe engine, than I would spend the money for a new clutch, springs and drive shaft. You may want to replace the couper to the trans-axle too.

If not a couple of the sponsors can set you up with some parts that have experience.

My 1978 Cub 1200 (4 speed tranny) is a bad smoker, but it still cuts the grass if your patient with it. I can't find anyone in my area that will rebuild the engine, so I'm looking to possible replacing the engine. There is a model 1315 12HPw/5 speed tranny(possibly hydro). Would this engine fit my Cub without too much trouble. If it will work, I have parts to rebuild clutch(pressure plate & disc) [email protected]

Ben D,
The 1315 is a lawn tractor with a vertical shaft engine, so it won't work with your garden tractor that is horizontal shafted.
Surely there's a small engine shop close to ya that might rebuild your engine.

Ben,
I did a quick Yahoo search for "machine shop, engine rebuilding", and came up with one place in your town, plus 14 places within 50 miles. There were 16 businesses listed within 50 miles on a "small engines" search. I would think they would either do the work or know of somebody who could. If you can find somebody to do the machine work needed, rebuilding it yourself is not that tough if your'e patient and follow the procedures exactly. The free Kohler download manual would be a must, unless you really feel like paying for a print version. If not, you might keep an eye on the classifieds here for a good used Kohler.
