The QA42A I have listed has a bad u-joint on the chute rod. U-joints on the shaft for the thrower are fine. Just wanted to clarify that.

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

I have the tractor back together. It runs and seems to run pretty good. It does still have a slight white to black smoke when it is under full load. It does run and drive well with the PTO engaged on the 48" deck. I ended up getting a brand new head and putting that on correctly. there...

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

Alright, I have it figured out. The exhaust valve side of the head is the issue. Opened it up and found the seat for the valve completely out and obviously it has been that way for a while. So it looks like a new head and valves. The biggest concern I have is the piston has a mark on it...

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

I do not know what is in it. After I had this figured out, I was going to put 10w-30 in it along with a new filter. There was a reason the valve rod was missing though. Almost makes me think the guides are bad. Even thinking the vavle could be gunked up from not having a valve rod in it...

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

I put the new rod in and it bent it. So there has to be something in the valve that is wrong. Ideas?

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

This is bizarre. I just took the valve cover off and found there is a missing valve rod. Now, the questions is, before going any more into it, could that rod have made it's way anywhere? I am almost wondering if someone did this one time before and forgot to put the rod back in. Ideas?

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

I picked the tractor up and finally had an opportunity to look. The left bank cylinder plug is heavily oiled. The right side looks good if not a little lean. Engine smokes but it is more of a white smoke than a blue smoke. Not much smoke at startup but gets worse as it warms up. Turn the...

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

I think I am going to buy it. Blower, weights, chains and tractor for the sum of $500. How could I go wrong?

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

I went and took a look at this tractor. Engine starts and seems to run good. It does not really smoke at all until it is warm. Turn the PTO for the deck on, and it really smokes and bogs down quite a bit. Rings or head gaskets? Could I find someone to rebuild it for about $500 or...

    1864 Kohler Rebuild Costs

Looking at an 1864 Cub. The engine smokes a fair amount. What is the approximate rebuild cost of this engine? It might just need rings, but while it is aprat, it might as well get redone. Is this an engine that is easy to rebuild? I have the skills, just never have rebuilt a...

Looking for a wide frame 42" blade/plow mount. I have a good blade, so I only need the mount. Previous owner cobbled up a narrow to work on a wide frame. Let me know what you have. I may have a narrow frame mount to trade.

Uh Oh! I think my 128 blew up tonight. Was just finshing up cutting the grass, pto was not engaged and the tractor was about 3/4 throttle when it started running really rough and then died. When I tried to refire it, nothing, plus it seems like it is much more free when it turns over...

Somehow I have managed to lose one of the bolts on the side of the frame where the mule drive mounts on a 149. Not sure how I did that, but what size bolt is it?

It has to be in the ignition system. I did get it to turn over faster by using my truck, so maybe my battery charger is bad, it is brand new though. I jumped it right to the starter and it cranked faster than ever, still would not start. Dumped gas directly into the cylinder, nothing. That...

I thought about the heat issue in the Hy-Tran. Where do you find the magnetic heater? Maybe I will get my heater out and put it behind the tractor and see what happens. I did try jumping it from my truck and it still did not turn over any faster. Tried with the battery charger too...

I am looking for a wide frame front blade mount. I have the blade, but the mount is for a narrow frame. I am in northern Michigan, but have someone who could pick one up in south east Michigan. I will be in the Grand Rapids area this weekend. Let me know what you have. Thanks.

I have a couple questions on the chain for a QA42A Thrower. My chain broke. It appears these chains do not have a master link in them. Can I simnply repair this chain with a master link? Will it hold up over time? From the best I can tell, this is number 40 roller chain? Is there...

I was thinking that could be the problem. I will post a pic tomorrow morning after I get it out of the garage. I wonder if I make a bar to go through the upper mount for the quick attach if it would be enough? I guess I might be able to make a longer lift bar too.
