I've been very disappointed with the 48 inch mowing deck on my 125. It runs too slow to cut good. Yesterday the middle pulley that drives the other two blades split apart. Rather than repairing it I took the deck off of my "parts" 125 which is a 42 incher. WOW what a wonderful difference. It...

Nate B, I first put jumper cables directly from the battery to the starter... still slow, then I took the deck belt off and that helped a little bit. I then I loosened up starter belt and that helped even more. It still doesn't spin it over like my Dixon, am I asking too much? Is this slow...

Kraig M, I'll check that ground wire. Would bad things happen if I used jumper cables directly to the starter from the battery to by pass all the wiring to see if it turns over better?

My 125s starter/generator turns over too slow, the battery is good and fully charged, must use starting fluid and have charger on "To Start" to get it started. If I loosen up the mowing deck to take pressure off the front pulley then it won't mow properly.

The breather wasn't plugged but I cleaned it up anyway. Governor rod still leaking. I built another "Y" bracket but longer; that's ketching the oil; will need to put a container on the bottom of it to keep the 125 cleaner and save that expensive oil.

Luther, I think you right because I did notice the opening for the breather is dry. Thanks, I'll give it a try.

I fabricated an offset "Y" and bolted it under the governor rod by drilling a hole in the arm to get to the phillips screw behind it. Thought it would work but Nope. The next time I'll have the bracket go all the way down and under the bracket that the spring hooks to. Way back in 1963 I hung a...

David, I appreciate the offer but I'm not going to pull the engine just to fix that leak.

Back to the governor leak. Can a new bushing and rod be installed Externally? If not is there some other quick-fix besides inclosing it so it drips in a controlled area?

After mowing I decided to power wash it before putting fenders back on, then drove it into the barn. After moving it I found a flat spring clip 3 1/8" long by 1/4" high on the ground.... is this something that goes on my 125? Another thing... there's oil leaking from where the governor rod...

I got it working. As suggested I removed the fenders and squirted PB Blaster on the two valves sticking up. Used the right side lever and worked the fluid down into it. Also sprayed it in the linkage. I pulled on the shifter arm and got it moving just a little bit. Then left for half an hour to...

A comment on my question.... I did look in the Archives and (Wvogel)on July 26, 2007 at 8:54 had the same problem. What are the release buttons? And it sounded like lube was all that was needed to fix it?????? Also sounds like to engage Release just pull it up with engine running and brake is...

I started my 125 Hydro today from winter storage and tried to put the shift lever into reverse..... it wouldn't move either way, it's just stuck. For some reason the wheels are free-wheeling and the release lever moves up and down without any resistance. I have no Idea how that Release lever is...

Charlie, I got the Cub Cadet Hydrostatic oil from my local dealer and I don't believe it says HYTRAN on it but does state it's for the Hydrostatic drive. Sooooooo is this also to be used in the Hydralic lift? Also what engine oil should I be using this winter when using the Snow Blower? Here in...

I'm in the process of making my first 125 prettier. I pulled the rear axles and put new seals on them and put a new gasket on the rear plate, added new fluid and oil filter. Tightened up the steering sector and replaced the left spindle and steering arm. Cleaned the carb and freshened up the...

I was wrong. The mower on my 125 is a 48 inch not a 52 inch. Here's pictures of my IH line up..... my 1952 Farmall H, next is my first 125 with hydlaulic lift and 42 inch mower, next my second 125 with a 48 inch mower and last is my third 125 with a blown rod. I've got 2 1/2 of these engines...

Well I got the engine in my 125 Garden Tractor today. Did some lawn mowing with it, it's 52 inch cut looks mighty wide HOWEVER my 42 inch Dixon runs circles around it. I had to switch the head so that the gas tank could bolt down correctly. When I was mowing the Dip stick popped out spilling...

Dennis, thanks for your input also, the more info I can get on these lawn tractors the better it is for me. Well I bought the motor, had to pay extra for the starter/generator because he just got it rebuilt. I'm also now the proud owner of another 125, which makes it three of them. Hahahaha...

Kraig, Thank you soooooooooooooo much for the info. Another thing, today I'm going to look at another Kohler 12 hp for my other 125. The guy has it on a stand so I can here it run, what should I be looking for? Good price $150.00 with front clutch still on it. Tom

My 125 won't start... no spark. It's been 8 months since the last time I ran it. It's been stored in a wet barn. I'm quite sure it's the points BUT someone please tell me something else before I have to pull motor and take off the Flywheel. Tom
