Harry, Thanks for the open tiller chaincase pictures. They have been elusive. Good to see what it looks like in there. JH

Harry and Doug, I've been torqueing the bolts to Kohler specs and in the designated order, same on retightening. After the second gasket gave out, I had the head worked on to flatten it. The studs that the heat shield and spacers are on were pretty much still tight each time. I have a...

Good morning, I need some advice for why the head bolts on a 14hp K321 Kohler (on a 149) seem to loosen up after about 3 to 5 hours of mowing time. I'm on the second head gasket this season (and share the mowing with a 129). I've been retorqueing the bolts after the first three mowings...

Jeff B. Great idea on the rock shaft/deck hanger fix. Very easy to do and eliminate 30+ years of wear. Jerry

Dennis F. and others. About three weeks ago, I asked for ideas about why my 149 was loosing rpm and "rattling" on an uphill run while mowing. I looked everything over for any loose items in the motor and PTO area. Didn't find any thing to tighten. I did turn the carb needle about 3/16...

Guys, Thanks for all the info, I'll check out the easy stuff first, then on to decarbonizing if needed. I've not heard of the water injection method before. (but it does sound wrong to put water into the carb....Hmmmm.....) I did find that the front starter/generator bolt was broken. I...

Good afternoon, A question for the engine wizards. I have a 149 that has run well for me for about 8 years, but now in the last month, it will occasionally make a bit of rattling noise when I am mowing at WOT going up a grade.....It kind of lugs down a little too. It sounds to me like a...

Brian H, Well its the mule drive front with the two idlers and belt tensioner and the lift frame. The frame is humped up and its a little offset to one side. If you have the deck it likely has the correct lift frame. The frame from a 42" or 48" deck will not work.

Brian H. The 44A deck works very well with a 149. You need the correct hanger assembly for the 44A.

Steve, Nice Tiller belt setup. You've got a practical fix for every Cub Cadet problem.

Lewis P. On your comment about the Nylon lock nuts.... Do you think they may not hold up over time? I know the nuts that came off my tractor were the "center dimple type" and they were "tight to the end" when being removed. I just happened to check those nuts and the driveline Friday...

Jeremiah, Here are two pictures of my drive setup on a 149. I only have one rag joint disk on each end. And I did use lock nuts when I did the final assembly.

Wayne S. Before buying a tap, you may want to try to clean the threads with a modified pipe nipple. I have taken a short nipple and with a hack saw cut partially through the threads at 6 places or more. I cut these "grooves" about half way through the pipe, so as you turn the pipe in...

David G. I have a 44A deck that I run on a 149. I use a 1/2" belt that I got from NAPA. It stays on the narrow mule drive pulleys and is fine on the PTO and on the "speedup" center deck pulley. I'm on my third summer with this setup. Also works on my 129. The adjusted length seems to be...

Kraig, Seems like the spring should have lasted longer. I just noticed that the spring toes are turned away from the PTO. Are they to be turned in toward the PTO? Would it make a difference? Just wondering.......

Wayne, Matt and Jeff pretty much hit the main points on differences. If you have a tiller, mower and a front blade (you said plow...I'm guessing for snow plowing), those attachmets with frames and belts will fit ideally to a 149, probably a 1450, but not so well on a 147. You have a...

Ted, Those two arms should be "clocked at the same time", meaning that the attachment pins that lift the deck hanger should be lined up at the same place. They need to be that way to eavenly lift both sides of the deck hanger, ie. hold the deck level at all times. I wonder that maybe one...
