    Timed Deck broken spindle

Thanks, that kit is probably a good idea. The drop to the ground probably didn't do the bottom bearing on mine any favors. I've had the deck for 17 years now and have never done anything to it other than add grease. I bet that top bearing is going to be difficult to get out.

    Timed Deck broken spindle

I've got a 1965 model 70 with the old square timed blade deck. I hadn't used it for years but recently needed to put it back into service. I made one loop around the yard, one blade tapped one little rock and "tink" the spindle that blade was attached to broke and the blade/spindle end fell...

Looking for a Cub Cadet with a mower (preferably not a timed deck) in New England. I'd prefer a narrow frame but anything would be considered. Looking to spend short money, $400 or less. I'd also consider a Simplicity, Allis or Gravely... Looking for older heavy iron.

Point taken Charlie but the search and I don't get along too well... I'm working through it. Looks like Northern Tools has a good pump for about $150. Maybe if I want this project to work out real well I need to just suck it up and buy a pump. That way I won't have to adapt the output of the...

Lets talk hydraulics. Does anybody know the output of the Cub Cadet narrow frame hydraulic setup? I want to build a loader on my 70 but don't want to pay for a "proper" CC pump. I'm trying to decide if an automotive power steering pump (which I've already got) would do the job. The pump I've...

I'm surprised this isn't in the FAQ. I know theres an online source for manuals for narrow frame Cubs but I can't find it any more. I'm putting the motor back in my 72 after replacing the flywheel and drive hub. I can't remember which way to connect the wires to the s/g and can't find my copy...

HOLY SMOKES! Where do I get a belly blade for to mount on my 72? That would be the bees knees for fixing up the road to camp. Way more betterer than a rear blade.

I'd like to point out that 5w50 (Castrol?) is not a proper Group IV or V synthetic oil, its a Group III highly refined conventional oil. Its a good oil but not a true synthetic. In the diesel Mercedes world its known for needing replacement at about the same time as conventional oil while a real...

One other thing, the mowing deck on my 72 that I thought was a 38" appears to be a 42". Nevertheless its totally trashed, but I'd bought a 38" replacement deck body which is now all nicely POR15'd and painted. I even bought new 38" blades. Will I be able to transfer the bits from the 42" deck...

WHEW! Apparently the nut came off that holds the driveshaft to the engine. That piece is potmetal of some sort, the pin stayed in the flywheel and beat the daylights out of the plate. I could go in first or second based solely on the friction of the pin on the plate... So I need a plate...

Major uh oh today folks. First chance to work my 72 since repowering it and it appears I've broken the flywheel! If you'd asked me yesterday I'd have said the chances were mighty slim but it sure looks busted to me. I'm letting the motor cool off right now prior to pulling it (again, sob!)...

Mike, I'm not sure where I got the replacement muffler, it was months ago, one of the sponsors though for sure. I *think* it was CNGCO because I bought some Farmall stuff at the same time. The replacement looks like a pepperpot, the replaced looks like a, uhhh, coffee pot with holes in it...

Okay, got another newbie type question. I bought a replacement muffler for my 72 because I figured the one one it would be all rusted out. It isn't, rusty but not rusted out. I put the new one on anyway but then the other day I happened to notice that the old one is about an extra 1/2" across...

Bryan, Thanks I definately should have consulted the Kohler manual before I got started on this. What took me a day to discover on my own is spelled out right there. Another question, I was reading 15.2v at the battery while running yesterday, thats too high yes? Again I don't have my...

I know I'm awful new to this but having rebuilt a mechanical PTO just the day before yesterday I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it for simplicty, ease of use, and good operation. I definately like being able to ease it on, that'll be handy because I'll frequently be using mine to mow in...

Bryan, For the larger engines it mentions turning the shaft for the K161 the IH manual doesn't say anything. Basically it says put the govenor arm on and adjust the arm that holds the throttle cable while never mentioning that if you don't rotate the shaft the right way in the first place you...

WOOT! Rebuilt the front PTO for my 72 on Saturday, yesterday the install went as smoothly as anything does for me. Finally having had it apart I understand how the stupid thing works. I think the manual left a bit to be desired in that section. Also leaving a bit to be desired is the section...

A good day Cubbin, got the govenor on my 72 something close to right. I'd not put the hood back on because I'm waiting for my front PTO rebuild kit but today I decided to put it on and see if the voltage regulator worked after a whole summer of getting rained on, surprisingly it does, I got a...

Some of you might remember my posting about the 72 that wouldn't do anything when I turned the key and had no spark when I jumped it. Well Saturday was the first time I had a chance to get to it. Armed with my wiring diagram I was ready to determine the keyswitch bad. Well before I tore into...
