IH Cub Cadet Plow Day 15 -----April 12th 2008

Referring to the tractor pulling, if instead of a tractor pull, we could do a sled pull. Basically how that works is that there is a sled and you have people stand along the edge of the track and as the tractor goes by people stand on it until the tractor spins. Very low tech. I also believe...

OT: If you have an engine that has a threaded dipstick, do you measure the oil with the dipstick threaded it or do you measure the oil with the dipstick sitting on threads?

The extra weight of the pulley might actually help with the snow. If you hit a heavy patch, the centrifrugal energy stored would help blow it away!

Referring to the building in its 2007 form, one may think, too bad they didn't finish the one side of the building with the nice brick. But you may have thought there was a big building there. Nope! The 1915 photo shows there was only a little garage there...

A hot engine dissolves the tar and allows it to flow out the drain. But, a cold oil change is better than no oil change, especially if the oil is black!

Ken: I agree notched isn't the best word to use in an ad (although that's a collector calendar), I would have stated "modified". However, that notching was completely welded in and has anyone seen a frame fail there? I doubt it.

when plowing, it would have been handy having a tool box for the cresent wrench. Where is a good spot to mount one on the older (122) narrow frame cub? (Dare I ask: At the swap meet, there were plenty of 126 style fenders available. Do they bolt on a 123?)

I was using my 122 for plowing when I got hung up when 2 furrows met. A nice couple on a Honda atv pulled me free (You meet the nicest people on a Honda! ) My 122 has the narrow (small) tiller lug tires on it. I do have a set of monster meats tractor lug wheels that I can put on to get...

how much oil does an oil tank hold if an oil tank could hold oil? The oil tank in question is the add-on hydraulics ram for the old narrow frame cubs. I want to change the oil for plowing today. How much do I put in? While I'm at it, how much do I pour into the manual transmission? (I...

What size studs for mounting/dismounting the rear tiller would I need to get? Speaking of plowing at night... My tractor that I plan on bringing to plow night doesn't charge right now. The wiring harness looks vintage. also, I popped off the box for the regulator and it looks ok... maybe...

A strange thing happened right behind me today.

It was a shock to hear. My thoughts are with the families. I never really liked steel truss bridges. They always looked flimsy to me. Perhaps from working on old cars, I know how much rust can attack steel. I prefer bridges and tall buildings to be built from re-enforced concrete. (Not...

Terry & Kraig, I have old British bikes and if they don't leak fluid that means their empty. It is hard to switch that mindset! ;) Yes, I have a 147. I don't know why I keep typing 149. I also have a 125 and a 122 (which I think might have been a 102 in a past life... who knows it has a...

Scott, Jason, Dale: About the lift arm for the tiller. I happen to have an upper lift arm from ebay that has a pipe stuck on it to extend the bar. Looks simple and is reversible. Also, I was thinking, instead of welding the 2.5 inch extensions directly to the lower arms, I think it could...

I got the electric lift together for my 149. Those little DC motors are sure a nuisance to put back together - the magnets popped loose and I had to fiddle with those little clips... Anyhow, the motor wires generates a good chunk of heat when I touch it to a battery with my fingers to drive...

I was looking at my tiller tractor and I was thinking, couldn't I make/modify a sleeve hitch to mount to the tiller mount points? I know most folks put studs in to make the gear box easier to come on/off, but from looking at it, it looks unnecessary. Have others tried this?
