104 UPDATE ========== Front PTO parts were delayed again Friday... so I couldn't wait to try the used-but-usable thrust button and throw out levers from a spare clutch I had lying around. THAT did it. We're cutting like a Samurai again! Thanks for everyone's help.

104 === Electrical is great now. Started up, and within 30 seconds... the PTO clutch blew apart. Took a look and found that all 3 throw out levers were blown out, and the thrust button was worn down to about 30% of it's original thickness. I have no idea how the clutch assembly was...

Roland, Yes, those naked wires probably were touching the chassis.

104 The Saga Continues ======================== Jumped the Neutral Starting Switch... started great! Engaged the PTO... PTO thingies broke. We have a spare off the 86 model, so I'm checking to see if they are compatible.

NEUTRAL STARTING SWITCH! ======================== I repaired a "short" on a connector that was sticking out the side of the chassis. The wires were stripped and touching. I remember seeing that the NEUTRAL STARTING SWITCH was orphaned... no wires running to it. I'll bet you a donut...

104 UPDATE ========== No love when key is turned. Not so much as a click. 1) cleaned the ground chassis contact. 2) replaced a corroded hot battery lead. All I get now is a 1/2 mark discharge deflection on the ammeter when the key is turned to ON. What should I check now?

104 UPDATE ========== 1) 42" Mower Deck - replaced center spindle (takes a bit to get up to speed, but now spins MUCH faster than ever before. Thought I might take off like a Harrier.) - PTO belt may be worn and not gripping well. Will replace. 2) Battery not charging? -...

104 Cub Cadet w/lights... but lights removed. ============================================= Generator not charging battery. Anyone have a wiring diagram that shows what must be connected if the lights aren't attached?

Kraig, The new blades and center spindle cut pretty well today. How do I know when I have enough tension on the belt? Now, the front spring extends when I press against it's pulley a little... maybe 10lbs pressure. So I guess the belt tension is close to the spring's pulling force.

The idler pulley spring counters the force of the spring on the mower deck, to keep the center spindle from being torn in either direction?

Kraig, Thanks for the belt info. You said: "Bob, or the previous owner used it at one time with the rear tiller which required that the spring be removed and the mule drive tension pulley be adjusted with a bolt." Do you have a diagram of the 104 idler pulley assembly? From your...
