Are you talking about the bottom grill? Mine has spring latches 612727 and no holes for screws.

Charlie, yes is the answer, I just thought this would make easy access and not get lost in the main forum.

Keith yes the bottom grill. I am going off my book on this,
"Springs were replaced with machine screws at serial #565131 to overcome the problem of the grill falling out."

This came from my book, anyone else have anything on this that can help.

Anyone have the particulars on the "82 series, b. final drive change @691605?

IH improved the final drive of the 582,682,782, and 982 at serial number 691605 by adding serrated mating surfaces to the rear axles and side gears. The grooves in the splined end of the axle shaft were deeper and the axled shaft itself was larger. The differential drive gear case was also changed at this serial number to accommodate the new axles and side gears.

the muffler on the QL actually changed 3 times there are 3 different versions - short, medium and long exhaust pipes.
