Lure of the Cub, If you Google this woman’s name you get 26,000 hits referring to her scholarly works in psychology but when she sees my 126 she begs to mow the field for me. Hey, hey, hey..

Well, I got the 126 back down to the river shack after about 4 years of absence. It’s been a real saga that I might write up sometime for this forum. I blew the engine by not recognizing that it was over-speeding due to a busted governor tab. Had to wait until we finished building our...

Thanks Charle, As I said in my note I looked at the parts lookup but didn't trust the information since it didn't show the nut on the diagram. Remember, I am looking at a 10 hour drive and don't want to be fooled by a less-than-perfect diagram. Dave

Please help me avoid making a big mistake.... Can someone tell me the size/thread on the tighting nut on a mule drive for a 126? Somewhere between my garage and the 5 hour drive to the river I lost this. No problem since the grass isn't growing yet. However, I realized when I got home...

I know this might sound crazy but is there a collection of K301 sounds (mp3, wav) on the internet that can help people a) know what different rpms sound like and b) know what different problems sound like?

I may have found out why I couldn't start my 126 after rebuilding the K301. Only after taking off the breaker cover to watch the points did the engine start. I think that the connector was shorting to the cover! I still have issues with the carb but at least I can get the thing to purr. Happy...

Thanks for the comments on my posts below the archive cutoff. Re: WIM Part I: Donald: I managed to do this without power tools… Dennis: One of us is psychic. I was just thinking about that idea this morning during faculty meeting. Do you think that it would be worth it to drill and tap...

Woe is me: Part II I've finished rebuilding my 126's K301 on Saturday and tried to start it. Nothing - even with starting fluid. I have spark, gas in bowl, good ground, points open at correct gap, it turns over as in the past. Nothing except an occasional backfire that seems caused by...

Woe is me: Part I Well, I did it now. What do y'all think? Can I repair this? Say braze the piece back and re-thread? (I decline to state how this happened.)

Okay, I still believe that there is a special place in hell for the person that designed the generator bracket bolt behind the pulley/clutch plate on a 126. But, I take back how I wanted him to get there.

Kraig, Thanks for the pics. (Written on my phone now at a boring gene therapy conference. Trying to look like I'm taking notes.)

All, Sorry about the question about the head bolts. I was using my phone to post the question at a social function trying to not be caught by my wife. The bolt lenght refers to the part that sticks up to hold the baffles, etc. They are all the same as far as how deep they reach. I did sort of...

I'm embarrassed to ask this but I can't find this info anywhere. I didn't write down the head bolt configuration on my K301 on 126 when I tore it down. Now, I can't remember where the long bolts go. Can someone post where the long and short head bolts go? Thanks, Dave

Well, I got my 126 dismantled, brushed down and a primer coat on over the weekend. Figure about 21 hours all told. Now, I have a question. Is there a compelling reason for putting a top coat on the areas where the “sun don’t shine” – inside the pedestal, etc? Will the primer hold up as well...

All, another idea on pin removal, a question, and a laugh at my expense. Someone said that it took four days to remove a roll pin from the clutch coupling and 1 hour to split the tractor. That’s what it took me. I figure one day to remove the pin for every decade that it was in. Idea...

Two questions: 1. I tried splitting my 126 last night but couldn't get the coiled spring pin out of the rear coupler. Is there a trick or do I use PB and hammering? 2. What is a good reducer for the Cub Cadet paint? There are no instructions on the can. Thanks, Dave

Re: bare block saga.. Art, You're lucky. You got your block back. I trustingly sent my crankshaft for grinding to another online vendor (not one of the colorful boxes above) in June and I haven't gotten it back yet. I called this week and they said "next week." Now they are not returning my...

Another newbie question.... I'm getting ready to paint my K301 block. Do I mask off the bearing slots, gasket surfaces, etc. or clean them off after painting? (I know not to paint the fins.)

All, I found out something this week that I hadn’t read about on the forum. Sorry if everyone else knows this but just in case…. I decided to clean my 126 gas tank using electrolysis using the method of Matt and others. Seemed to work great. Lots of red foam along with the usual excitement...
