Matt, I see that you have a number of 82 series machines. I have came acrossed a 782 that I was considering. I need something while I fix this 1450. Anything in particular problem areas I should look for? Also, how much modifying would I have to do to make my 50" deck work?

Thanks Robert. I'm pretty sure that the Quietline series did away with the S/G. Maybe someone can verify this setup... The PTO turns freely and has no obstructions and does not bind up when turned by hand. I like the idea of the mechanics stethiscope but may just pull the head and check it...

My 1450 problem is not the exhaust valve and I will test the condensor next (thanks Robert K. great reference). When I hit the key, the starter can't even turn it over, so I am assuming that it is an internal problem and am going to have to look at an overhaul. Any recommnedations on a kit...

Alright, when I get home, I will try and see if it starts. I am assuming that if it is a stuck exhaust valve and it cooled, it should start. If that doesn't work, I will progress to a condensor. If that doesn't work, I may have to consider internal problems??? If anyone has any other ideas...

Thanks Jeff.. I'm laughing at myself right now. You would think I could have figured that out on my own. Rough day today.

Kraig, I am going to risk sounding stupid, but what is BTDT?? Also, is there anywhere on the site that I can locate a little more information about trouble shooting a failing condensor and/or is there a way to test either problem?

I was mowing this past Saturday when suddenly my 1450 shut down on me. I know, I know, I read the FAQ's that talk about the exhaust valve sticking and I am really hoping I have this problem. But it seemed too easy. It started after sitting for about 5 minutes but wouldn't stay running. What...

Alright, no luck on the parts look up either. The identification number is 501U1112. Any suggestions..

Paul, Good idea on checking on the parts lookup. I will try that and let you know. I have checked the FAQ's section as well as manuals and haven't found anything. I will check the parts lookup and let you know.

Kraig, Thanks for the discussion, I appreciate it. I am hoping to get to the fan soon, but am not quite sure how soon it will be. I just didn't want to regret not doing it sooner. Also, I think my 1450 has a 50A deck, but am trying to identify this based on the ID tag. I looked at the...

Rick, right after I posted the question, I came across the faq's in a previous post and kinda felt stupid. Sorry. As for the fan, I am definately going to repair it, but just don't have time to get at it right now. I appreciate where you are coming from, and will get to it ASAP. I am just...

2 Questions that I hope you guys can answer. #1, I need a new belt to run my 50A mower deck and am not sure the one that came with my 1450 is correct. Cans anyone tell me the factory size of the belt? #2, the blades of the fan on my drive shaft are broken off. I am planning on replacing it...

It seemed once I tightened the filter the leak in that area didn't appear any longer. When I put filters on I only tighten them hand tight. I don't like over tightening them. That way if I need to, I can always go back and give it a little squeeze with the wrench. The brakes are an external...

Glad to hear that you think it is an axle seal Kraig. That is something I can change with minimal downtime and rather cost effective. I'm probably going to change it and see if that solves the problem. I will let you know.

Great reading Kraig! Now you really have my gears grinding... I initially noticed the leak after I changed the fluids and ran it for a while. It initially seemed to be coming from the filter. I tightened the filter thinking this was the source of my problem. Obviously it wasn't. I am now...

Thanks Dave! That is what I thought. It figures, I just replaced the filter, gasket and fluid for the differential. I will catch it in a the pan and attempt to reuse. That stuff is getting too expensive. Sounds similier to pulling an axle out of the rear end of a truck...

I have hydro fluid leaking out of my 1450. It is appearing on my brake and on the floor. I am thinking it is an axle seal. If so, what is the best way of going about repairing?

Thanks. That is what I was thinking, but wanted to throw it out to people who have a lot more experience than I do. I plan on changing all fluids and cleaning all terminals as soon as I have free time. Problem is, I have to work everyday.... Really takes away from my free time. Any other...
