Had some trouble with my 126 today. Hoping greater minds may help figure which way to look. While mowing I noticed a loss of power and some change in the engine sounds, but I do wear hearing protection so it wasn't a great change. As I backed off the throttle I saw flames coming from the...

Hey guys, had a quick question for you. I have a 128 I got about a year ago and am slowly going through it to be a work tractor. While running it this weekend I noticed smoke/mist come from somewhere up near the governor and points when running near WOT. What could this be and how...

Donald, Luther, and Ken, Thank you all for your help. I think I got it fixed. Considering the engine over rev destroy itself scenario; I thought I'd ask before calling it good. Got the screw back in and started engine. Slowly ramped up throttle and towards wide open, no load. I saw the...

Thanks for the replies. I was afraid it was something like that, holding in the governor. It doesn't seem to want to go in by hand. It was out far enough I could see the smooth part after the threads. So I take it I should try the turn engine in reverse and try to re-insert option. Charles

Ken, Thanks for the quick reply. the bolt was all the way out when I noticed it. By that statement I mean no threads in the side of the engine but the washer and the smooth end of the bolt were still there. So I'm not sure what you mean by the little flat piece. I tried to edit another...

Hi all, Hope the weekend is treating you well. I'm looking for knowledge and advice. I just brought my 128 back home to get it ready for summer mowing at the family place on the Ohio river. The main reason I brought it back is the pto locked up at the end of the summer. While loading...

Talking about running them for a while. I'm really proud to say the 126 I have is the tractor I learned to mow with. It's about one or two years older than I am. Dad gave it to an uncle who gave it to me four years ago. It was in rough shape, but thanks to you guys and some help from...

josh, Dave has a good point. I just replaced the axle oil seals in the end of the carriers on my 126. It was leaking out the end and onto a brake disc, makes stopping hard. You may not have that issue but then again you may.

Matt G. Try to rig up some way to pull it... I personally put a 3/8" eye bolt with a few fender washers (gonna have alot of force) into the "H" pattern. I then placed the whole shifter in a bench vice with wood to protect shifter plate. I then used a ratchet strap to other end of bench and...

hi all, I am looking for a little wisdom. I have a 128 and the starter generator is trashed from PO. I have a replacement but am having trouble getting the pully off. I got the nut and lock washer off. I'm asking if there's a key way to remove or the like before I get out the BFH so to...

Bobby, that's a wonderful suggestion... bit late now that I went to the trouble of fixing the one I got, and you're a distance away. LOL Good excuse for a road trip. I had fun tho'. I'd never opened up a transmission and was really excited about being able to fix it. Dave, I am going to look...

Hi all, Looking for some wisdom. I have a 128 gear drive I just got done fixing the gears. It wouldn't shift because of internal issues. They have been resolved but now I think there is a problem with the shifter itself. I basically have to hold the shifter with two hands to make sure it...

tkeefe, That sounds great, but looking at what gear that was in the picture I doubt you'll have the correct one spare. If you have a spare email me. I have a broken first/reverse fork, A first reverse with a chipped tooth, second/third with two teeth off, second gear on the counter...

Thanks kraig I had all the manuals for my 126 and 128 but couldn't be sure forks were the same as an original; thought they were but didn't know. You guys are great by the way...reading over posts and FAQ helped me to feel I could work on my cubs and not screw up too badly. It's...

Are the shifting forks the same for an original and a 128? Tkeefe, Wow you've got that many teeth missing? I just have one or two missing on three different gears. A broken fork as well. And the topper, a bent main transmission shaft.

tkeefe, Just adding my .02 but i found that not only is the service manual nice for first time gear tear down. I also used the exploded parts views. The parts views helped visualize how it went together and as helpful, it told me the name of some parts I didn't know. I dismantled my 128...

Hi all, First time posting so bear with me. I recently bought a 128(not running due to electrical). And have now found other issues. 2nd gear is broken. its not the shifting fork. I removed the shifter and can see the broken gear. I'm good with my hands(electrician) but not very...
