    Hay equip. where to start?

FWIW, I cut about 14 acres of dense timothy/alfalfa/rye mix with an old Case 830D pulling a New Holland 495 haybine. It is a 12' wide cut and it will produce a serious swathe of hay - so large, it can be tough to bale with my NH 273 square baler. Right now, I've got about four acres left...

If your 782 ammeter was showing a slight discharge, what would be your first thought about the cause?

Thanks, Kraig! It's funny how people (I'm speaking about ME, here) tend to read "advice" on this forum and then go ahead and do what they want anyway. Well, this time, I actually spent ten bucks on battery cables and, man-o-man, was I surprised. Never again will I wing it on my own. Those...

On torque and HP...torque is the amount of rotational power (work) that can be applied and horsepower measures how FAST the work will occur. Torque times RPMs divided by 5,252 gives HP. Conversely, HP times 5252 divided by RPM gives HP. So, torque is rotational power (whether or not movement...

I finally got time to post a followup on my little 782 repair project. Been swamped getting ready for winter and all that. OK...a few months ago, my 782's starter...never a robust item...gave out entirely. I looked in the archive and got the rebuild instructions, gave those to my able 15...

I don't suppose it's possible to buy brushes and carrier housing for them...is it? Anyone tried to rebuild a starter?

I had my son pull and refresh the starter in the 782 (as in clean it up and grease). He did so but didn't have the experience to know if parts were junk. It had been starting very poorly and after he put it all back together, would not start at all. After trying everything I could think of to...

Paul & Paul: The tractor is a 782 and the relay I'm working on is under the seat and you can feel it actuating when the ignition key is engaged. I read a write-up on another site that mentioned when the relay begins to fail, it will take out the ignition switch, too. I had a ignition...

I have discovered it is the starter "contactor" or "relay". Commonly called the solenoid. Why is it not passing current to the starter?

I've never experienced this problem before and not sure what it is. There is a small black device under the seat and next to the battery that is clicking loudly when I key the ignition. That would not bother me at all...except the starter is not doing it's thing and there is no joyful noise...

Brian: Float adjustment determines when the needle valve shuts off fuel flow to the bowl. It has to be pretty out of whack to flood or starve the motor, IMO.for that, IMO. That said...I'm an R&R guy with carbs...adjustment is not my forte.

Kraig: I checked out the straps...they are exceptional. I'm going to point my wife to the site and remind her of my birthday. BTW, my son's middle name is my mother's maiden name. Not all that common a thing to do these days.

Brian: I had a chipper shredder that would run perfectly for quite some time...like an hour...then suddenly spool down and quit for no reason. I'd walk over and pull the starter and it fired right back up, ran for another hour, then quit again. Nobody ever figured out why but two explanations...

Frank: The manual says 15 to 20 pounds...do you really crank them down to 35?? Kraig: Those photos of that collection were stunning. Jaw-dropping.

Kraig - glad to see you're still out here!! Yes and no...still have the Pug, had to let the guitar go. SWMBO bought me a PRS Custom for my birthday last year. Lord only knows what I did to deserve it but it sure is fun to play. Gerry: I found that torque value online this morning...I...

I know I haven't been out here for a long time but this does not make me a bad person...just a farmer. I have a quick question...and I checked the vault first: My beloved son, in whom I am well-pleased, just removed the driver's side head off my 782 KT17 in an effort to get at the starter...

Thanks, Ken. I liked that "will trade bailout credits..." line. LOL. I'm looking to sell some of my carbon credits but I can't find anyone dumb enough to pay pay me for them. Maybe I'll call that guy in Tennessee...nah, he won't want 'em either.

    Child fatally shot in Nerstrand

Todd: I'm with you. We live about 700 feet off the road, in the woods. The nearest police station is fifteen minutes away and the likely response time more like 30 minutes. I keep a loaded gun on the nightstand. My children have been taught all their lives about gun safety. They would no more...

Here's a couple pics of our Hearthstone wood stove. It's a huge thing. Built in 1996, it is an "exempt" stove as it does not comply with EPA regs - no secondary burn system, etc. It is made out of soapstone. We heat 2300 square feet with this and about 500 of those feet are a glassed-in...

Warren Newton's health has been failing

Looooonnnnngggg time since I posted on Warren...or at all for that matter (this farming business is ridiculous). Warren, you'll be pleased to hear, is doing excellent. His strength is returning, albeit slowly, and he has attended a couple of shows - the Goodells, MI tractor show was a big...
