    Starter engagement issues

Well,I robbed an original Cub Cadet starter off of a parts 682. No more problem.

    Starter engagement issues

Nope. I'm thinking sloppy tolerances in the aftermarket starter bendix. Caliper batteries were a mite cold so I couldn't get a measurement. I do have an old starter I pulled out of a 682. It's either IH or early CCC. I know I never had this problem with that 682.

It does make a grinding noise as it skips. Gets progressively worse untill they barely touch and flywheel remains stationary.

    IH versus CCC built quality

The serial number tag should say International Harvester right on it. If it's unintelligible the IH tags were smaller than the CCC tags.

Cub Tiller and gearbox with all linkage

If I didn’t already have one I’d be on my way. Less than 100 miles for me. Looks like everything is there.

    54" GT deck on 882

I think I may have figured out why I needed the longer belt. Because of the Super Steer and 26” rears my deck hangs lower relative to the tractor. Further from the mule drive. I also had to use longer deck hangers to drop the deck down into position.

    I ended up using a Napa “B83”.

    54" GT deck on 882

    Yes,I did. Well, I took one from a 44c I had because I didn’t want to part a decent 50c.

    54" GT deck on 882

No. But thank you for putting me on the right track. For some reason I needed longer. Napa did the exchange no problem. PTO pulley must have been bigger. Came with the M18 engine I guess.

    54" GT deck on 882

Finally finished this project. The GT 54” deck is definitely worth the trouble. Blows grass out the discharge like a forage chopper. And still leaves a very nice cut. Floats much better than the 50c. Which is nice around rough farm stead mowing.

    Starter engagement issues

My original post highlighted and a edited for brevity. I didn’t ask for fix or a diagnosis. I asked if anyone else had seen this issue with Cub starters.

The contact pattern on the drive teeth is perfect.

    Starter engagement issues

Nothing like that. As stated previously the bendix extends and turns. It just has excessive clearance at the flywheel which prevents it from engaging. It spins parallel to the flywheel teeth without catching. It’s as if the flywheel were undersized. Except it’s not. The bendix will engage...
