Kraig, No it does not turn over even with the spark plug out. It coasted to a stop. The starter generator still engages and spins but the pulley attached to the engine is stuck and wont allow the belt to spin. I had to add roughly 1-1.5qt of SAE30 to get it up to a good operating level.

Hi guys, long time, no talk. I come to you today with a big fear. I started up my 127 to mow the lawn this morning and it started smoking and shut down within 1 minute of running. I opened the hood and checked the oil to find that it was very low. I then added some oil and tried to start it...

Marty, Thank you. When I get home ill take a look at it again. I probably mixed the wires up trying to get it put back together in a hurry. That’s a beauty by the way!!

I replaced my ignition switch on my 127 today prior to heading to work and went to turn the key to verify it was functional and the engine turned over while the key was in the “ON” position rather than the “START” position. After turning the key further into the “START” position it fired right...

Gerry, If I stated that the points were staying open than that is a typo...The points are brand new and work fine. Ill try your bent wire trick for top dead center and let you know my findings. Marty, Thanks for the info. Its certainly worth a shot at this point to take the bowl off and try...

Also, with the spark plug removed and cranking the motor I feel air coming out of the spark plug hole.

Ron, thanks for the detailed reply. I'm getting a nice blue spark with the plug pulled and grounded. I think I'll pull the carb as you suggested and get to the valves and check their gap. I'll keep you guys posted.

Earl, Im not sure that the engine was rebuilt. I had bought the 127 off a guy that had gotten it from another guy whom didnt finish the restoration. With that said, im not sure if the engine was rebuilt of not. Doug, Thanks for the link to that write up. I went ahead and started to do the...

Steve, it turns over as soon as I turn the key. If i hold the key in the start position it will eventually backfire. Exactly how would i test for compression? Frank, Im getting 4 ohms across the positive and negative side of the coil. The other checks seem to be satisfactory as well.

Ethan, Ill have to do some reading and try to see if the timing is off. Also, the engine will backfire (occasionally) with both the carb and with starting fluid. Other than that the starter just spins everything up but the engine doesnt fire. Any chance its the coil?

Ethan, The Carb was also rebuilt last week. Definitely getting fuel. Doug, Im a newbie at all of this so forgive my ignorance. But I thought that by replacing the points and setting the gap (to .020) that I essentially was taking care of any timing issue that might have been there. Am I way...

Ok guys...I STILL haven't been able to get the 127 running. A quick recap-I was getting spark but the engine wouldn't fire. After reading some input from you guys I went ahead and replaced the spark plug, condenser, and the points but am still not getting anywhere. No fire from the engine but...
