I have a bunch of coils and VR`s and Starter gens that I have no idea if they work as required .
So I want to make a test bench to test all these and label them as usable or junk. I have the 61 original engine just sitting here and well 2 10 hp a12 and a 14 that I could use . So I think I could make up a stand and start bolting on an engine and run a battery . A small dash for a switch and light switch to test a load . Any ideas you guys have feel free to post it here .

Excellent idea

Take a bow, Don, it IS a good idea! :)

The coil test should be simple, with just an ohm meter, (metre, Don?) and if you want to check one when it's hot you could check it right on the engine.

A spare S/G mounting bracket could be utilized and the S/G should be able to be turned counterclockwise with an electric drill in reverse with a socket on the S/G belt pulley nut.

I must have 7 used coils and I I just took off the 149 ; actually when the engine was running it would backfire and run rough a wot. Put on a new coil an this issue stopped. but it does test with a METER as you posted .

Oh and your last sentence the answer would be ?
