I had the same issue on the Craftsman 24hp B&S. It won't crank past the compression stroke. I have always figured it was valve adjustment and did the YT thing to confirm it before the CC LX1 came home with us. But now that it has the same problem I adjusted the valves to .005" and it solves nothing. Still cranks a spot till compression comes up and stops. What am I missing. When it makes it past the high pressure spot it runs fine, sounds fine, power output is fine, no issues.

Loren, what I've learned the hard way..sometimes...a weakened battery,a tired starter,a worn comp. release, valve adj. out, coil gap too far...By design everything has to be close to new to work correctly....My op starters should be heavier today also....often an engine can be turned backwards to comp.,a short shot of carb cleaner, hit starter and the odds are good it will fire....that doesn't fix the issue tho.....I have a Kaw. that has been torn down cleaned, new release parts etc.everything has been checked,it still does it...Only thing I haven't done is replace the starter..

If you can manually turn it just past the dead spot. It should crank thru to start. Make sure your battery and starter are good.
